You mean it blows the fuse or trips the breaker? Try a couple of things:
Try using the toaster on a different outlet. Move it into another room temporarily. It could be that you have enough load on that kitchen circuit already, that adding the toaster overloads it. If the toaster works OK on another circuit, try figuring out what's on the original circuit by flipping that breaker or unscrewing that fuse, and see what doesn't work now. If there are other outlets in the kitchen that still work, plug the toaster in there.
If the toaster flips the breaker in another room, you have a bad toaster. Cut the cord off of it so that nobody else uses it, throw the whole thing in the trash, and get a new toaster. The breaker is keeping the toaster from overheating and setting your house on fire. That's what it's designed to do.

It sounds like a fault with the wiring in the toaster. It should have a green earth wire, but it sounds like it doesn't!
You'd be best getting a new toaster, even a cheap and cheerful one would be better than one that keeps fusing everything and sounds dangerous! It would p'robably cost more than its' value to get it fixed!
If it is under warranty, find out where to send it and get your money's worth.
All electrical items have a manufacturers 12 month warranty. If you haven't got one with this toaster, you can buy an extended warranty, either 3 years or 5 years, so you'd still have the manufacturer's 12 months warranty, but could buy another 2 or 4 years cover on top!
Hope this helps!

What else do you have plueed in to that circuit? There may not be any problemw ith the toaster at all, it may just be that you have too many other things already on the circuit, so that when you use the toaster, it pushes the circuit over its limit. Unplug something else before using, or try the toaster on another circuit.

I think that there is something wrong with the plug that you are using, have you tried a different outlet? A toaster is a small appliance and shouldn't be doing this . Perhaps you could have an Electrician take a look .

I have had exactly this problem with my "old" toaster. I'm afraid they are made cheap and cheerful these days, mine was from Tesco and I think it cost just over a fiver. I'm afraid the only thing I could do was chuck it out and get a slightly more expensive one from Argos. Sorry, I know that isn't what you want to hear but that's what I had to do. :(
What you could try however is when you push the handle down, do it gently this might work.

The chances are that its your RCD (residual current device) thats tripping out. this is an a device used for extra protection particulaly if you can take leads outside....
what seems to have happened is your toaster has developed a NEUTRAL EARTH fault which can only be rectified by either re wirein g the appliance or just buy a new one...personally i'd get another.

Fuses the house?? It blows your main breaker?? You have some bad wiring. If it's just blowing one circuit you toaster is likely shot.

Did you somehow get water in the electrics? I had a steamer that used to do this and when I opened it up there was water inside so I binned it. That could also mean its something to do with the internal wiring I guess.
My advice? Treat yourself to a new toaster, you can pick them up really cheaply nowadays! (Make sure it actually fits your faourite bread though! Thats my pet hate with my toaster!)
