Hi there,

I can help you with this! lol...I'm an architecture student, and we have studied this in our first semester.

CAPITAL - the upper part of a column that supports the entablature. It is the decorative top of the column or pilaster.

VOLUTE - a carved spiral form in classical architecture; often used in pairs as in the capitals of Ionic columns

ACANTHUS - the multi-foliated plant which in stylised form is used to decorate the capital of the Corinthian order

Capitals of columns are not associated with Geography. Just check out my definitions.

The three orders are: Doric (the simplest), Ionic (with volute), and Corinthian (volute and acanthus)

The Romans added the Tuscan and the Composite (the combination of the Ionic and the Corinthian).

The parts of a column are the base, the shaft, and the capital.

The parts of the entablature are the cornice, the frieze, and the architrave.
