I don't believe a single thing I hear from George Bush. I would need to see proof from an independent source.

The problem is that President Bush has no credibility in the United States any more. After his justifications for the Iraq War (1. Iraq has ties to Al-Qaida 2. Iraq has WMD 3. [and most important] An attack on the US by Al-Qaida using Iraqi WMDs was imminent) proved to be all false, the American people are wary into getting in another quagmire like Iraq. President Bush will NEVER get the authorization to attack Iran from a Democrat controlled Congress.
That being said, Iran is looking for nukes. Everyone in the world knows this. If the world is to stop Iran, then other nations (most notably France, Germany, China & Russia) must step up to the plate and demand Iran stop their nuclear weapons program. Without these nations, nothing the US does (short of a military attack) will do any good. The US cannot continue to the policeman of the world or it will bankrupt the nation (much like the Cold War build-up of the 80s bankrupted the Soviet Union).
The Mideast only gotten more dangerous. Unfortunately there is little the US can do about it.
EDIT: Citizen Cope - We couldn't arrest the Iranian President when he came to New York because of International laws. Any world leader that comes to visit the UN in New York has diplomatic immunity. If the US arrests just one world leader the UN will pull it's offices out of the country and move to Switzerland.

Just as we insisted that Iraq possessed WMD's, despite what the rest of the world knew, now we insist that Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons. We don't care about the facts. We don't care to work with our allies. Facts only confuse the issue. They could very well be, but the nation asking the question has lost all credibility. That is the real threat to America. We will do a much better job destroying ourselves than our enemies could ever dream of doing. We've got a good start. Until we hold our government accountable, the question is moot.

I agree with you 100%. I am a liberal democrat, and I too voted for Kerry. I do think that Iran wants to build Nuclear weapons.
What baffles me…. if the president of Iran is our enemy as stated by GWB, then why wasn't he arrested when he was visiting our country a few weeks ago. It is sort of confusing to read between the lines, when an enemy to our country was here, and he wasn't dealt with. For some reason GWB is hell bent on invading Iran, and killing more of our brave soldiers. He had the pres of Iran in our backyard, and he choose not to deal with it. Where was the outrage from Republicans for not arresting him?

Many nations are given the right to develop nuclear energy. Iran has claimed numerous times that they simply want to develop that energy. I think that we are targeting them because of 1) our long history with Iran, 2) we now have forced in Iraq and Afghanistan, so it makes the U.S. government feel it has a strong foothold, and 3) the Iranian president has threatened Israel.
If Iran were most other nations, then I really don't think we would even be paying attention to it. With that said - I do feel diplomacy is a must and we aren't doing it. I also feel that sanctions as a threatening tool can cause disastrous effects if not applied properly and if we don't have support of the international community.

Yes, unfortunately they turned down the opportunity to receive all the fuel they need for nuclear power and choose to make their own. With their full sponsorship to terrorists this country cannot negotiate with their careless strategy. Sanctions and cooperation from those countries who also stand to loose citizens from a nuclear Iran will win out in the end. If not then I personally would choose to use military force. I believe this country is taking the right track, Sanctions, embargo, and last military intervention.

Iran is sneaky. I don't know why they are trying to cause trouble because it doesn't really make any sense. I think the U.S. is in serious danger of jumping the gun again. The Europeans are working on a diplomatic solution. I think we need to stay on that track. War should be a last resort. It is not the answer. The sanctions that we are leveraging now is a big mistake. It's going to damage diplomacy. Where are the smart and intelligent people in government? We need them. I'm guessing that they are neither rich nor powerful.

To answer your question, I think Iran is trying to get nuclear weapons, and I do not trust Iranian leadership with that kind of destructive power.
I think it is not responsible for the international community to let Iran have nuclear weapons.
And I agree that the question of Iran and their nuclear potential is not connected in any way to whether or not you like or approve of President Bush.

Iran would probably like to have nuclear weapons but what is the big deal? We have them, Russia has them, France has them, U.K. has them, Pakistan has them, PRC has them and it is speculated that Isreal might have some. I for one would rather have Iran with nuclear weapons than Isreal. Then again, I'd rather so NO country with nuclear weapons.

It doesn't matter who the President of the USA is Iran is most definitely pursuing nuclear weapons. You are correct anyone who doesn't see this has their head buried in the sand.............
It is also clear that the Earth is warming, the reasons why are in question but there is no doubt it is happening......
