Not any more than any other country should spread THEIR political system "all across the world."

It depends on how we define the spreading of democracy. Should we "spread" it through reason, diplomacy, advocation of the spread of education or the spread of free media... or should we simply start wars with countries that we don't think are democratic enough?

The Renaissance movement primarily started not with war, but with the spreading of ideas through education, science, the arts, etc... which led to revolution by civilians in their own countries. I think the best way to spread Renaissance-like ideas to the middle east is through the same way.

Also, starting wars strongly hurts the economy and can lead to unwanted side effects, not to mention lower stability abroad making other nations more deceptive to terrorist group infiltration. And, as others have stated, there are a lot of domestic issues in the U.S. that don't receive the much needed attention when a new war is started.

You can't force a political ideology on anyone who is not in the mood to accept it. The best thing America can and should do is SHOW people in other countries why Democracy is so attractive a system of government, by treating ALL its citizens with tolerance, acceptance and an assumed sense of responsibility.

It's kinda hard to justify democracy being such a good system, when the US has children starving to death daily, families living in their cars, no schools for homeless children, kids with their adult teeth already beginning to rot, people dying prematurely for lack of adequate, affordable medical care, US veterans who served their country honorably, being ignored and forced to accept substandard care for their wartime injuries, rats chewing on babies in tenement slums, some of the least educated people on the planet, corporations buying and selling our politicians, millions with no jobs, while factories close and unions are classed with communists, rightwing hate radio and TV, public school art and music programs closing, for lack of money, but there are still funds for all the "sweaty-ball" teams in High School, etc.

No. It is none of our usiness how other societies and people run their lives.

Further--if we really have a better way of life to offer--we should concentrate on setting a good example. Then, if we are as great as we like to think we are--others will eventually follow our example.

All "spreading democracy" really means is using our ideology as an excuse for bullying and exploiting other people--which is absolutely guaranteed to insure they NEVER adopt a political system similar to ours.

You can lead the world to democracy but you can't make them free. Some places have no history of democracy - only theocracy, tyrants, military juntas, communists (see tyrants). So, no we should be a beacon, an example for them to aspire to.

No. Only our enemies. We need to eradicate it at home first, though. We have a good start with the greatest president ever, George W. Bush. We should also do away with all personal freedoms. They just complicate things.

No, we need to stop trying to police the world. We need to fix our own internal problems here at home. It's outrageous that we put the needs of other country's before our own.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I believe the purpose of my government is to look after the American people, not meddle in affairs around the globe.

No, but we should assist when asked. If your question deals with Iraq and Afghanistan those are really the benefits we provided with our war to defend this country. If your question is about Bosnia, then yes we were asked to protect the Muslims in that country and we did.
