I was in Costa Rica recently and a Brit and a French Canadian wanted my take on the political situation in the U.S.A. It made me wonder...

What do citizens of other countries, like the UK, Canada, France, etc. generally say about us (the USA) in their conversations?

And to the people who disagree with our (the Americans') current involvement in world affairs, I'd ask, please remember that not everyone is part of the stereotype. Some (a whole bunch) of us don't agree with what's going on and are tearing our hair out over the ignorance and apathy that the members of the majority apparently share.

You don't have to be apologetic for any such things.National policies including foreign affairs are formulated and executed based on so many considerations that it's well neigh impossible for a layman to comprehend their details in full measures. What America is doing against terrorism is not only for it's own safety but also as a part it's obligation as a super power to keep this world a safer place. Some people tearing their hair publically is a sure sign of a good democratic credentials that as a largest functional democracy in the world,USA has earned.

Now, I don't think much about it.

The topics of my conversations don't usually revolve around the United States, but if something pertinent comes to mind about it, I may state it...

I don't care much about politics, and some American entertainers are more likely to captivate my attention than politicians...

im british, and i know there is a lot of stereotyping of americans, both here and in europe.i think you all tend to be tarred with the same brush. warmongering, interfering, overweight, and self obsessed are some of the things attributed to you.although i agree, there are an awful lot of broadminded, educated, caring people there,i know ive met many. but dont you think all nationalities have good and bad stereotypes? arent we british supposed to be unemotional, cold and humourless(not true incidentally) and aerent canadians boring? so what thats life!

there are distinctive motives for that. the main impressive reason is aggression. Yeap, expensive individuals, the U. S. is an aggressor. We kill a great number of the human beings worldwide. the 2nd reason is a lie. Yeap, expensive individuals, the U. S. likes to lies. The 0.33 reason, why can we predict of that God loves us and easily the U. S.? i think of that God would not love that u . s . that's killing human beings worldwide and continually mendacity!

Um, I think that the US Americans have to understand that "pinche gringo" does NOT mean nice white guy in Spanish. Also, that the Africans and those in Afghanistan should get maps .... for the children.
