Everyone is making some excellent points- both those who agree with you AND those who don't agree with you.
It's very true that there are cheap alternatives to eating fast food. But one thing that we need to try to remember is that we're all in different situations. There are people who are unable to grow their own food because they're not in the position to do so: Some are homeless, others are living in sub-standard apartments on the gazillionth floor with no windows, and so on... Purchasing cheap foods isn't an option for those who live in areas in which the only sources for food are expensive grocery stores, convenience stores, and fast food resturants. Of course, a few cheap foods can usually be found even at the most expensive grocery stores. But, really, how much better off would you be if you lived off of packs of Ramen noodles and hot dogs as opposed to McDonald's McChickens?
While it's true that some people are overweight due to their own poor choices, the opposite is also true. So, much of what everyone is posting is accurate depending upon the circumstances. In my humble opinion, we should consider that we're all different and that life doesn't deal us all the same hand of cards. None of us have the exact same opportunities, abilities, options, fortitude, etc...

No one has to eat from a dollar menu.
Cheap and healthy ways to eat include growing your own vegetables (even if you only have an apartment, you can grow a few in a window box), eating vegetarian and cooking from scratch. A healthy meal like pasta with home-made tomato sauce can be made for well under $1 per person. Healthy vegetarian food is not more expensive than fast food.
The USA is one of the world's richest countries and although I completely agree that the USA doesn't do enough for it's poor, you try telling telling someone from say Cambodia about this problem. There, the average wage is about $1 per day and there are no fat people. They farm and they cook healthy food.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

In America, fast food is still more expensive on average than going to the grocery store and buying food to prepare. $20 to buy 1 meal for a family of 4 at McDonalds could be used to buy 3 days worth of food from a grocery store. There are these things called "reasonable portions" and "leftovers" that people seem to have forgotten about.

Oh. I get it. We finally state that we're tired of being bashed, and the response we get is "well, you guys do it too". They aren't comparable in the slightest. There have been books written, best selling books about Anti-Americanism. There have been Americans traveling overseas who refuse to tell others that they're American, or attempt to pass as Canadian. There are pamphlets being handed out by some American Government Agencies to American tourists on how to handle situations should you run into some anti-American sentiment overseas. There are American students dropping out of Universities overseas because of the verbal abuse. The list goes on and on...... And your reply is "you do it too". Yeah, usually in response to your insults. And if we're not replying to your insults, you go off and complain about how we don't know the rest of the world exists. Perhaps looking at how the rest of the world looks at and thinks of Americans, can you blame us for not wanting to pay attention? The U.S. dollar hasn't been more worthless in over 30 years, yet somehow travel from the U.S. to Europe and other places overseas has remained steady. With America being so incredibly cheap right now, you'd think that travel to America would be up. However in places like Europe, travel is down close to 40%. Why is that you think? So who has the problem with whom?

I'm sorry but I think that's just an excuse som people have. They are healthier things that are about the same price if not cheaper. I'm American, don't have very much money, but plenty of healthy food in my house. I eat fast food because I'm lazy. A fifty cent pack of ramen noodles is cheaper then a anything of a dollar menu and healthier, not much, almost anything is healthier then food that's completely drowned in grease like most fast food is, or at least the stuff off the dollar menu.

I think you can eat healthy from the market on the same money as you would spend on fast food, fruits and vegetables are still pretty affordable and there are inexpensive cuts of chicken, I can find stuff on sale all the time, if you plan your shopping well and use coupons you can save tons of money and eat healthier, fast food is a killer forget about getting fat it's not nutritious and will make you sick, did you see "Super size Me" the movie? what an eye opener.

OH GEE! blame the government! or why not just sue fast food restaurants, like the two overweight, black females who sued mcdonalds because "it be making them fat."
healthy eating is not limited to purchasing "healthy foods" that are purchased at health stores. the money you use to purchase items on the "dollar menu" served at fast food restaurants could purchase some items at the local supermarket that could last the whole day.

AMEN! I hate it when those snobby Europeans bash us Americans...
We drive cars because we have a VAST country..
We eat fast food because we have no time and we're busy making an effort trying to make a living.. (and we don't have time to spend 2 hours eating a plate of cheese and crackers the size of our palms)
At least the United States had CIVIL RIGHTS...
I've heard of so many racist happenings in Europe it makes me sick..
