If you've been paying attention to football the last few years (starting with Indy's comeback against Tampa Bay) you should know that almost no lead is safe. Just this season a few teams have scored a ton of points in the fourth quarter, either winning or getting oh-so-close. If a team can't stop you or your second string what are you supposed to do? Kneel for every play after you're a certain margin of points ahead of the opposing team?
Just like in the NHL and MLB, teams aren't going to stop because the other team can't stop them, they just keep playing. Insurance goals and runs, no one says anything about those.

eatmorecactus: I did do a search (as I normally do) and the questions are people asking if they are doing it or not. I'm asking why people have a problem with it, not whether they're doing it or not. That's pretty freakin obvious

What else can you do when you get horribly beaten but to scream, "it's unfair, it's not right..." Its professional sports, not a freakin little league/pop warner youth game. These guys shouldn't stop till the final whistle blows.
Belichick has a chip on his shoulder, he definitely wants to prove to everyone who thought he cheated that he can demolish everyone without needing to cheat.
Think about this--- do you think these people would complain if their team was rolling over everyone by such a large margin? do you think they'd really say "man, my team sure is classless for winning by this much..." NO WAY, theyd Love every minute of it--- just like I AM loving every minute of my patsies just destroying the opposition.

The plays in question in the Pats Skins game were not equatable to kneeling. The Pats were up 38-0 with 10 minutes left, it was 4th and 2 and they were in field goal range. A 41-0 lead with 10 minutes left against a team that has shown no offense the entire season let alone the game, is the same as a 45-0 lead. The Pats don't pretend they are classy, they just want to win and don't really care what people think (nothing wrong with that). There is nothing to complain about as a Skins fan (which I am), if you don't want them to score, you need to stop them. Its still 1 loss in the win/loss, lose by 1 point or by 50. PS the only people whining about it are media and fans.

I am a huge Bear fan...I also hate the Patriots. That being said, I have no problem with what Bill did. Going for it on 4 and 2 gave the Redskins an opportunity to get the ball back without having the Pats score more points (they were in field goal range). The amount of money that the Redskins make is the same if not MORE than what the Patriots make. They are all professionals, and should be able to do their job on the field.

Sportsmanship, sportsmanship, sportmanship. The Patriots have a definate lack of it. No need to run a fake spike when you are up by 38 (the most points scored in the 4th quarter is 34). The went for it on 4-1 from eight when the game was basically already over. Kick the field goal. When you are up by as much as the Pats have been, run the ball. Chew up clock.

You can't really believe that a team like the Dolphins can really score 5 TD's in one quarter against the Pats defense. You are just excuse making for those jerks. Playing the starters so late, fake spike TD passes, going for it on fourth down, etc. That's just rubbing it in no matter how you try to justify it.

I think the reason the Pats ran the score up is because they had no punter. All the talk about how the Redskins have a great defense, and the Pats won't be able to score, it got the Pats more focused. They had focused all week, and they just couldn't help themselves. If the Pats had started the third quarter with back-ups, and just ran the ball every play, it would have bored the fans, who paid good money to watch 4 quarters. Also, it would have been a bigger insult to the Skins.

You can't compare football to baseball or hockey. You just can't. In football, you can control the game by running the ball every time in the 4th quarter and kill a lot of clock. You don't have to pass. Passing is riskier so most teams tend NOT to do that with a big lead late in the game. Eventually it will come back and bite them.

The complainers are whining jealous babies.

The Pats were up by 30+ points in the 3rd quarter. Fans paid big money for tickets to that game. Do these people really expect the Pats to "take the knee" for the entire 4th quarter just to avoid bruising the ego's of the millionaire athletes that are their opponents ???

If you've been paying attention.... you would know that this isn't just about the Patriots running up the score. It's about pay caps, spying, score running, general arrogance and attitude.....every team wants to get the "insurance goal"....Patriots want an insurance slaughter! That invokes anger!

The 4th and 1 was a perfect situation for the Pats to use in the future. they could test a play, run a decoy play or do a lot of things for themselves or to show the Colts what they should try to expect (and then fool 'em).

I don't know why the multiomillionair redskins should have to relax after getting blistered for 49 minutes.
