considered to be immature? I can understand ones like Pokémon(I'm not knocking it because I have XD) or Digimon. Not all are the same or have the same plot lines; yeah there's crude humor, but it's no worse than what you see on Family Guy or the Simpsons. Some animes have sexual innuendos, but that's nothing new to anyone. As I mentioned previously, anything you find on an anime, you can find in American animation. Don't bring up weird hair color because American animation has that too; anyway, not all animes feature weird hair.

Before you bring up Sailor Moon, I'll go ahead and tell you, that show was not as clean as the FCC tried to present it. There were several instances of incest, gay/lesbian affairs; plus other things that I'd rather not say.

Again, all this stuff is in American animation, so why is it immature to watch it? I'm not asking you to like it. I'm merely asking a question.

most likely, it's because of the western stereotype of animation as being made "only for kids". also, the fact that most of the animes that are imported to the us (i think) are those that were meant for younger audiences. this kind of prejudice is also quite prevalent here in the philippines. thus, shows like "bleach", "fullmetal alchemist", & soon, "deathnote" are shown together with other children's shows!

If anything is immature, its the american animation aimed at adults. I've seen an episode from family guy, and it was horrible. i really don't get what the guys see in it. is it because THEY are immature? anime is way better than this cheap interpretation that puts much emphasis on sexual themes. though some of the cartoons for kids are good. just stay away from the ones on adult swim. except for inuyasha and the animes that have been english dubbedd, but subbed is still better.

immature? or childish maybe? you are right on the aspect that some elements in japanese animation or "anime" for short are similar to that of american cartoons, but that doesnt mean that substantially they are of the same feather.. anime is usually intended for the japanese viewing public, and the diversity of topic or genres it encompasses is very wide. even the range of age....the more popular animes syndicated to US televisions have for its target a rather younger audience, (the super popular pokemon, yu gi oh, digimons etc.) so the popular notion would be is that anime is childish or just for kids but this view usually comes from individuals who have limited knowledge of the whole anime experience. Anime can go from the subtlest to the most extreme ideas and stories..its hard sometimes to get rid of a popular notion.. some people just dont have the time and just stick to a popular view..rather than really make a knowledgeable comment.

People think that way because they see that it's animated and automatically think it's for kids. Not only that, they usually see the edited forms of shows like Sailor Moon, and the horrific editing just reaffirms their first impressions. And since American cartoons are specifically written and drawn for kids to understand, well, that just adds to the stereotype of anime having content that only minors, or immature people can understand.

Mostly it is a stigma left over from the early days of cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse and the like, where catered to small children (with FAR more violence than most could get away with these days).

This has resulted in an attitude of "cartoons are for kids" that is still very common in America today.

That attitude has most definitely stuck in the minds of TV executives, so they try to market anime as such to everyone else. And unfortunately many companies will try to ram a series that they think would be popular into the mold, no matter how much editing it take to make it fit. (IE Sailor Moon and One Piece, or the original idea to make Naruto a Saturday morning cartoon as prime examples.)

Also the series that make it to mainstream telvesion usually are childish, so people see that, and 'know' that anime childish and never have an encouter with something that is not. Most would be VERY shocked, as my parents where, when they encounter something for older people.

This attitude isn't just focused on anime, but on all animated works. Anything that is just TOO much to fit in to that mold is quickly fitted into the ideas of 'fetish' and 'meant for people who haven't grown up'. Once again, this applies to all animation, just more anime's pop the mold than American works. (The Simpsons and other similar works pass themselves of as sitcoms that just happen to be animated, and managed to pull it off.)

This is reflected in marketing and timeslots, and hence, impacted popular image. You'll note that Cartoon Network only advertises its 'adult' anime during 'adult' times. Only Naruto managed to land in Toonami, a 14+ block, instead of Adult Swim, a18+ block, where series like Bleach ended up.

(And HOW Naruto ended up in 14+ instead of 18+ I will never know. I my opinion of what I have seen of the series, Bleach is in about the same league. Bleach's main enemies are obviously inhuman monsters, and usually you can get way with more when you are dealing with those.)

i personally don't think its immature to watch, but i do catch myself sometimes not wanting to mention to people that i watch it. I'm always thinking they are going to judge me or something. Most of the animes i watch are to much for kids to understand and are geared toward and older generation. Same things that's on a movie but drawn in cartoon form.

I don't know why many people consider anime to be immature..I think everything is subjective. There are different kinds of tastes and so people like different stuff. However,I believe that you forget a big amount of people out there, who really love anime and manga and consider them to be an important form of art...

First of all ... Japanese anime is not immature in general. There are genres that cater to kids, teens, adults etc.

Please don't compare anime to american cartoons. You really don't know what you are talking about. The ones you understand (Pokemon and Digimon) are primarily aimed for kids. I'm guessing you're a little kid. I suggest you grow up a little and then try watching anime that other people say is nice (like the guy above mentioned DEATH NOTE... good choice). Only then would you understand that Japanese anime is leaps and bounds ahead of American cartoons in terms of PLOT, DEPTH, CHARACTER BUILDING and STORYLINE to name a few points.

You seem to like Blood+ and it has an instance of rape of a minor .... remember how Diva got pregnant? Then you b*tch about Sailor Moon? What's up with that?

Chew on this fact ... In Japan ... people think its immature to watch American cartoons .. coz they have absolutely no sense or morale (their reason) ... Evryone likes their own work ... both are different forms of art and expression and i think both are brilliant in their own ways ... Is it immature to watch Tom and Jerry ... my Grandfather still watches it :)

Point is ... no one has a DAMN right to say what is immature or what isn't ... watch what you like and don't give a fig what others say .... wishing you many nice entertaining hours of Anime :)
