Apart from 'mum', 'dad' and derivatives, what was your child's first word?

"Cat!"

(To be shouted at the poor animal whenever she sees him, usually accompained by mad waving and superspeed crawling..... then a flash of fur and a frantic feline exit)

I have it on video! She is 11 months.

Interesting question, I bet pets are popular first words!

Our youngest said 'glug' at the appropriate point in the song 3 Little Speckled Frogs, which his older brother (at the time aged 2 and a half) sang to him constantly.

I have to say im very sceptical of any baby saying anything before at least 9 months & if they do it'll more than likely be sounds like, "mummumum" & "dadada".
My girls just turned 1 & hasn't said her first proper word. She tries to say dog which sounds like "dor" & i thought she shouted "dinner". Also she's started saying "hiya" when you say it to her first but its not coherant enough to be a real word.
So were still waiting, apparently they say their first word once they understand 20-30 words.

My oldest child's first word was ba for ball. He would play with this little orange ball and yell ba ba. It was so cute.

My youngest's was mama but after that it was dog. He loves our pup.
