From your description it sounds like you are building a GARDEN wall i.e 5 blocks in height, you do not mention the size of the blocks but assuming 18"x9"x4" blocks, the wall would be 45" in height. in such case piers at 6 to 8 feet should be adequate.

With no offense meant at all; I want to assume you aren't in 'the states"
Pillars in a strict sense isn't STUDS, and WALL in your Q doesn't suggest an OPEN span between "Pillars"
BLOCKS High is also not detailed. If it's common Cinder/ concrete block your Q suggests approx. 40 inches high plus mortar joints. Certainly not a WALK through area.
With block you can used LINTELS that can span a distance as long as they are supported at either end.

The wall will stand up untill something hits it, no pillars = no strength

if it uses say an RSJ or something.. better to get some props to hold it up..
some bodgit builders remove structural supports and well the weight normally taken by the pillars isn't there, so will collapse.
you need to sort that out as you can cause a lot more repair work if it collapses.

It's up to you, but if you want building regulations to approve it, you'll need to put something in place every 6 to 8 feet.
