He was never a top MLB player. Mattingly, another 1st baseman was baseballs best player for 5 years, and has better stats, he has not gotten in either.

No. Wasn't Hall-class a player for long enough. Way too much DL time during his Rangers tenure. There's been lots of great players at 1B, and he doesn't quite measure up, either in his own era or across history.

Very good player. Not great.

The writers dismissed him in one: first ballot was 2006, and he got a mere 4.4%, below the relegation cutoff. There are other doorways into the Hall, but they are more difficult to open.

(I cannot believe the Hall has him listed as "Willie" Clark. I've already emailed about this sad state.)

No, he did not have the numbers that his peers did during the same time. He is not even close. Andre Dawson is far more deserving and he will not get in either Canseco will not get in and he had better numbers as well.

Are you serious? What has he done stat wise?
2176 carrer hits is about the only thing he has gone for him.
Andre Dawson had 2774 hits with 438 HR's & he is not in the Hall.

Agree with the other posters. Too much time on the DL scuttled any chances he may have had. Chip-they refer to him as "Willie?" What are they smoking?

No, his career stats don't bear it out.
