Success is being pleased with your own direction, not trying to follow some idea of what success is. Since life is a road we travel, is it even right to assume there is a point of success, or should be more reasonably point ourselves in the direction we feel is uniquely ours and pursue it wholeheartedly. Living life as who we were made to be, contributing what we were meant to contribute, and moving forward with each step, that is success.

I believe modern views of success are a pretentious ideal created by the capitalized society, where we have the idea that if we have a big house, car and 5 figure salary we have succeeded.
But I believe success is making a difference to the world such as finding a life saving drug, or the abolishing of the slave trade.
Or maybe a simple way to put it is being put in the history books and having a statue made of yourself which unfortunately only happens after your death.

Success is a state of mind. It's not an absolute term, philosophically, but a relative term. If it is absolute, then all of us will define it the same way, simultaneously with the same meaning.
It is therefore a relative term. How Britney Spears defines it will differ from the author of Harry Potter novels, from George Bush to the presidents of Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea.
In our own little ways, we define success as being contented we got enough money to spend for our love interest on a date, if for a short while.

Success is an interesting concept. Different people have different ideas. Personally I think there are two different parts of success. Task-success and life-success. Task success is easiest to define because it's small scale and specific. You do a job and complete it to necessary specifications. Life-Success is similar except the specifications are not as easily defined. If you value money, being rich could be success, if you value love, getting married, if you value family, having children, etc. Essentially success is completing a given task in a satisfactory way. Satisfaction depends on your own personal values.

Well done, a good question!
If you ask a kid, what is success? He/she knows what success is. I think this is one of the best definitions of success.
However, during the course of your life experiences and interactions, Success is an end result of your Vocabulary, Sentences, Meanings and Attidutes attached with these. In other words your World View.

There are a lot of definitions of success. Financially, physically, morally, emotionally, over time, for one moment, etc.
I think that a person is successful in life if he/she can look into their life and be happy with what they have done. It is not about riches or notoriety, but about the ability to be satisfied with what they have done.

Everyone has their own measure. Lots of money? The big corporate title? Raising a family? Overcoming adversity?
For me, it's doing what's right and true by everyone because I know that all the other measures of my entitled material success will happen by themselves.

success is like training for months to shave off a few seconds off a race time... success is setting difficult goals and accomplishing them and that feeling you get when its done... knowing that all the training paid off is the true essence of success for a runner likewise for everyone else
