Cut a small hole in the top center of the case. A round parachute needs to "spill" air as it descends. If there is no hole in the top of the canopy then the air must spill out of the side causing the canopy to swing and in your case flip over. A small hole in the top of a round canopy will allow the air that needs to "spill" out to go through this hole at the top and you will have a stable parachute. This was a major problem for real parachute design for many years. The hole is still used in all round parachutes. RAM air canopies are a completely different monster, but a lot more fun to fly!

I am guessing you're talking about a cake BOX ? About 9x9x4 inches ?? Then dropping it from a building to parachute safely to the ground ?

I'd put a SMALL weight on a string on the BOTTOM of the box, to drag the box down, then a "drogue-chute" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drogue_chute on the top to further stabilize the box until the "Main-chute" opens.

GOOD LUCK with your Project
