I would like to DIY a network cable to connect my computer with router, so which kind of cable i would need to do? (crossover or straight cable?)
By the way, can tell me the way to arrange the color of the cable when i want to pin it to RJ45?

I had made a color chart for my own use but posted it for you on my website: http://www.mermeliz.com/html/cat5_cable_color_code.gif

There are notes I had written onto the chart to explain when one would use a crossover cable.

Crossover cables are explained here: http://www.homenethelp.com/web/explain/about-ethernet-crossover.asp

Remember to make up all of the wires!

To answer your question, you use a straight through cable for computer to router. Really the crossover is used mostly if you conect one computer to the other. Everything else uses just a normal cable.

Hope this helps.

To set up a network between two computers. 1. Both PC's need a Network Card (NIC) with an Ethernet Connection. 2. Cross Over - Cat 5 cable - That way you won't need a router. 3. Workgroup name has to be same on both computers. 4. Computer name has to be different on both computers. 5. Run network setup wizard on both computers. Bill

You will be better buying the correct length patch cable. Without the professional tool, crimping ends is hit-or-miss. Also if it does not work you need a relatively expensive tester to find the problem. If you insist on making your own the connections are :
1 orange
2 white/orange
3 white/green
4 blue
5 white/blue
6 green
7 white/brown
8 brown
Hold the connector with the cable entry at the bottom, with the locking catch away from you, number 1 is the left end terminal.

I have a 1000' spool of plenum Cat-5. So far, I have only used about 100' of it, which I bought for $30. I have no idea what to do with the other 900'. I went from wired to wireless, so I also have the pre-made cables that I already owned.

Unless you just want to collect tools (like I do), buying pre-made cable that someone else guarantees to work, is not financially attractive.
