Will webe all forced to eat dog and cat food food soon?None of the mainstream press coverage of record-high crude oil prices that I saw last week turned $92.22-a-barrel into a teachable moment. Instead of exhuming archival footage of gas station lines from the '70s, producers might have re-aired the more recent tape of former Harken Energy director George W. Bush strolling hand-in-hand through the Crawford bluebonnets with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah.
How do explain this or even comprehend this?

there is no way no how I'm eating dog food. I know the troll thinks I'm a ***** but I'm not!!!

I think it is an absolute scam the way the oil producers hold the world over a barrel LOL with the way they set oil prices.
In turn these prices affect everything else like ripples in a pond.
Maybe we should ditch the car, go back to public transport , grow our own veges and keep our own chooks..
I did about 10 years ago and am seriously considering going back to it.
Also our govts need to put serious money into alternative energy research.

A greater influence on the price of food is the demand for "gashol". To make the ethanol needed for this blend of fuel requires massive amounts of corn. The law of supply and demand drives up the price of that commodity. So, the price of feed for cattle rises as well, as does the price of corn-based products. It also means less corn available for corn tortillas in Mexico, the staple food of the "campasino". So, like hungry people everywhere, they migrate to find food and the means to buy it.
At the very heart of the fuel price issue in North America is the enormous increase in the use of gasoline (petrol for our friends in the UK) when we have not built a new refinery in over 30 years. The first new one is planned for South Dakota. It will cost over two billion dollars. And getting through all of the regulatory hurdles will consume eight to ten years. Those are the stories which the media doesn't cover on this issue.
BTW, the Bush family was involved in oil production and development in the Emirate of Kuwait with Zapata Oil Company. Not Saudi Arabia.

It used to be that we would 'loss leader shop" at the various grocery stores...from store to store, buying this and that at each on sale. But with the cost of gas, I suspect that may be more costly than just biting the bullet and shopping. Milk has gone throught the cieling here, as well as most other items. I see NO buys in dog food except the dry type! But, I do have great receipes for Rat! (tastes just like chicken!), Squirrel (use the ribs as a toothpick) Possum (tastes just like tough chicken) , all found BEHIND your local grocery shop! :-) Peace and love, Goldwing

Today is 10/29/07 and the latest 'excuse" for the increase in oil prices per barrel (now $98.00++) is that Mexico has shut down their drilling rigs because of bad weather!!!

Oh! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaally???

I bet GWB isn't losing any sleep over these price increases!

This topic just disgusts me...no offense to you, I think you are great! But yes, it just is infuriating that we can't do anything about it. We in the U.S.A would never get that coverage....it is my opinion that the news we get here is what GW wants us to get and nothing more. I can't wait to get rid of this guy...but then who in God's name will we have to choose from...not looking good. You want to comprehend this....he is a member of the "Secret Society" go to Amazon.com and look up "Secret Society of the American Elite" by Steven Sora. It should answer ALL your questions.. That's all I can say about that.

Oh dear. Yes. It means a price rise in everything. And I have heard there are people here in our country, who actually have to use the canned dog food. There was a documentary on the subject.

No, even that meat will be too expensive, they will have to be vegetarians and eat out of a home grown garden too. This is absolutely terrible, I bet Bush is lining HIS pockets though
