I parked the car, came back and well it had lost thousands of miles. I am worried incase i take it to a garage and they think I have tried to 'clock' the car!

Some milometers display miles OR kilometers.Could it just need reset to miles?hope this helps

It sounds like you went from total milage to trip milage display.
