I think being rude is a bigger effort, polite was the norm in our house, practiced every day so it comes easy. Being rude is something I have to work up to.

Depends on the situation.
Its a big effort to be rude to someone who is polite and a bigger effort to be polite to someone who is being rude

For me it depends...I think it's okay to call somebody on rude behavior. I try to be polite and cannot say I have never been rude. I try to be nice but it takes a huge effort to be polite to
rudeness. It has to be really bad though..sometimes the rude person is maybe just having a bad day. For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. I think I got that right..forgive me if I messed up Newton's laws. But my point is I think it is better to react positive and be nice then the equal reaction will be positive. Then if the person continues to be rude. Simply say "that is not very nice". and leave them in their misery.

Being polite no one consider it as an effort cuz it doesnt grab attention to some ppl or give u any credits to it.
But being rude will definitly give u a spotlight among ppl around u and its a total big effort to be rude cuz its not easy to not respect someone by ur behaivor!

2 years ago one of my favorite professors told us:'' the most easiest 2 thing that a person can do are spending money and to be impolite". I agree with him so my answer will be the bigger effort goes to being polite on the long term.

Being the student of a radically Jesuit school, being rude is out of the question. It would take me a great effort to answer back to someone or stand up for myself even. Which is - I agree - self defeatist.

depends on the person - normally being polite in terms of not acidentally saying anything that could cause offence - but actually properly insulting them? id say not a good idea to go for the rude option and i know people who learned that the hard way
