How about....
1. Post a notice on the vacancies board at your local agricultural college (or college that runs RHS or BTEC courses in garden -related matters).
2. Ask/advertise at your local garden centre / post office . allotment site?
3. It is always best to take up a reference from applicants if possible. Expect to pay £15-£25 per hour for a qualified gardener, £8-£15 per hour for unqualified. (Although in a big town or city the sky is the limit it seems)
Good luck!

1st of all, you pay for what you get, you will pay a good gardener at least £17.50 per hour, plus whatever he pays his workers
2nd, always go by reccomendation as apose to advertising, for example, have a drive around your nabourhood, and have a look at some gardens, dont be afraid to chap doors and ask who carried out the work, if they are happy with it they will reccomend the guy, do this with a few houses to see if you get the same name a few times, cowboys will do only one or two "dodgy jobs" in a neighbourhood then move on
gardeners are hard to find, but good luck

Unfortunately there are some a****holes out there. I am a gardener and would never dream of leaving a garden unfinished (much to proud of my work.)
You can only really go by recommendation.
Surely these people that you have contacted should not be passed on to others, reputation is too important

Keep your eyes open when driving around estates, often you will find, private houses, getting lawns cut, bushes cut back general maintenance. etc. and a transit or similiar parked outside. Ask a neighbour or a person whose garden is particularly well maintained for their contact. Or advertise in local paper, but always as for refs or contact numbers of clients.

I am sorry you cant find a good gardener. I believe in doing a good job for a fair price
But as I am in NZ the relocation costs might be prohibitive
See friends/family/work mates who do they use
Good Luck

ask your neighbors or family members that use a gardening service.....or drive around and when you see a gardening truck, look at the yard and if you like what you see, stop and talk to the gardener and ask them to give you a quote...

Usually, the most decent gardener is either your neighbour/neighbour's son (because he will be there and do the job, and stay friendly) or someone another person recommended.

Find a garden that's well cared for and comparable to yours. Leave a note in the owner's mailbox complimenting the garden, asking for gardner's name and phone. leave your name and phone.
