Oh yes, I read them. I also read them to my own children when they were small. Still waiting for grandkids. I used to call my kids grasshopper when they played instead of doing their chores...;)

I still do read them. I teach English to high schoolers and adults. Both groups enjoy the fables and they open the door to some really interesting discussions about human conduct. Myths and folk tales are also great.

Keep on reading-and please read to others, especially children.

Yep the values they teach will always be modern. Also was into Joel Chandler Harris' Brer Fox, Brer Bear and Brer rabbit fables.
