i have narrowed my search down to Compaq models. However, i am in a dilemma, since one of the models has AMD Turion 64 Moblile microprocessor and the other one has Intel Celeron. Now i would be using this laptop just for web browsing, MS office applications and sometimes for gaming. Which microprocessor is better??

Those chips would be fine for gaming but the graphics chip you'd get with anything that has one of those CPUs will not be good enough for serious gaming.

For web browsing and office applications it isn't going to matter what you get and for gaming you probably notice much of a performance difference anyway so unless you want to spend more for something with better graphics you may as well just buy on price (or other features of one or the other laptops).

The Celeron M530/540/550 are now high performance 64bit mobile processors that have a low power draw. These new Celerons are better than the single core Turions.

AMD Turion 64 would be a lot better for gaming.

Turion is 2 year old technology, Celeron is 8 yr old. Intel is moving away from Celeron. Hope this answers your question.

Turion wins, hands down, particularly if you want to play the occasional game.

Your question does not get specific enough with the processor. If you are a gamer, that put it in the very expensice category. Here's a good link. Clock speed means nothing anymore. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon64-fx57.html

You decide. I think the 64FX is suppose the one

Turion's cache is richer. But you gotta pay extra bucks for that!
