There is not a history of accidents at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I'm sure like any amusement park there have been accidents, and most of these are a result of people not following directions, but no history. The Giant Dipper did not come off the tracks and end up in the ocean, no nuns were bitter by rattle snakes while riding the giant dipper, these are urban legends that even I heard as a kid. The rides are well maintained and safe. They wouldnt stay in business if they were not safe. Here in California not only do the parks inspect thier rides daily but Cal OSHA is out all the time keeping an eye on things.

For those curious people who find this old page, yes, there were three deaths on the Giant Dipper since it opened in the 20s. One was shortly after opening and the other two were in 1940 and 1970. At least two of them involved children not listening to safety instructions.
I've never found any information on other accidents or deaths at the park, but urban legend (or at least a story from a friend of a boss of mine when I worked at that park) says that two boys drowned in the Plunge. That was a giant saltwater pool where Neptune's Kingdom mini golf and arcade is today. The Cocoanut Grove ballroom is also said to be haunted by happy guests who decided to make the park a permanent home. You can hear laughing and music in the ballroom sometimes when no one's there.
