They cannot. Some employers want sick notes for this.

If you want one, the doctor has to charge, as a three day period of sickness does not need a sick note. If doctors did not charge, the trouble you have getting an appointment would be worse as loads of people would be seeing your doctor just for a sick note!

Just because your sickness is planned, you do not need to take time of as holiday. In fact, this is something that many employers do not know, but if you are sick on holiday, you can claim that time off as sick, and get your holiday allowance back!

They are definitely wrong- an operation is a medical reason and you should be paid sick leave - speak to HR and get a medical certificate from the hospital or your doctor and your work will have to pay sickies

Good luck with the op - hope its not skin cancer

Here, if the doctor will give you a "Work Certificate" which is a letter saying that you were unable to work due to illness/medical condition, the employers do have to pay you sick leave providing you have some owing.

That's bullsh*t. Do you have sick days? If so, tell them you are taking 3 sick days.

Oh, and don't tell them until the Friday before you leave. Then they will just be like. Oh, sh*t. Well, ok then have a good weekend.
