Isn't it just a remnant of WWII? Why do we continue to do this? Back in Benjamin Franklin's day it might have been useful, but what is the usefulness of Fall back and Spring forward today?

It is for conservation of energy. Bush last year signed a bill that extends DLS up to a mounth and a half (in the US at least). Any way, who likes it getting dark at 5pm?

There has been debate after debate about this in the UK. They actually left it as it was as a trial one time, and the farmers and postal workers complained so much that they changed it back!

Now they're saying that putting the clocks back causes a powersurge in the evenings and is bad for the environment. Surely if the clocks didn't go back, the powersurge would be in the mornings and be just as bad for the environment?

Personally, it doesn't matter to me what time it is. I'll still get up when it's dark and go to bed when it's dark, and have the same number of daylight hours in between.

Back wards or forwards? that doesnt make sense. If we are putting the clocks back we are putting TIME forwards, which is much more important. and arent we adding an hour ON? all very confusing. Im having an extra hour in bed, whichever way we go, same goes for summertime.

It actually is more useful these days, as modern life is more divorced than ever from the natural rhythms of nature and people are trying to get more done in their days than ever before. Daylight Saving/Standard time helps to utilize most effectively the hours of light in a very busy world.

Actually, TWO mainland states do not have daylight time, Arizona and half of Indiana, and of course, Hawaii.

I am all for leaving clocks at daylight time the year round.

I've NEVER had to deal with that nonsense. I live in the only continental state that doesn't bother.
