I am selling a book to someone on craigslist and they want to pay me with paypal. I'd much rather do this than with cash but I want to be safe...especially since there are a lot of weird people on craigslist.

When someone gives you money through paypal what information do they recieve about you? I know all they need is your email to send money but I would really rather the person not know my full name.

Does anyone know the answer to this? I've never sent money through paypal.

they will receive NOTHING informationwise about you from PAYPAL. All PAYPAL does is MAKE THE MONETARY TRANSFER and relate it to the item being purchased, using the E-MAIL of the sender to confirm who the money is from. PAYPAL does not use account numbers publically and uses E-MAIL ADDRESSES only as account identifiers.

If you send the invoice he will get your address as a payment option if you accept payment by mail. If he just sends you money via paypal directly he won't get your address but you should get his. If he wants to he could ask paypal for info you have listed such as phone number and address but nothing that is a security risk such as monetary like card numbers or bank accounts.

In the case of a dispute paypal encourages you contact the opposite party to work it out before filing a claim.

The sender will not be given any information about you. The only information they will have is that they sent a payment to your email address and that it was received. Paypal has very strict policies about personal information.

you set up whatever info Paypal asks of you but to the other person, the only thing you need to give is your email address. You both have to have email addresses and paypal accounts.

If you are the buyer...you have to give the seller your shipping addy, that's about it. It is a safe service, don't worry. Just don't fall for them fake emails asking for passwords and such, then you will be taken for a ride.
