Some women don't know the difference between being assertive and being aggressive. Assertive is stand up for what you believe is right without bullying others. Aggression is defensive, abusive and destructive. A man who can't discern the difference is weak. ;)

I guess ***** comes from when female dogs snap and grow as a means of exerting dominance with each other. To be fair some women can be like that too! However it is like alot of catch all expressions it is frustrating, insulting and out of order when it is used at every opportuntiy as a means of suppressing a woman's right to be assertive.

In my experience, when women try to be assertive they frequently over compensate, coming off as b!tchy. When in a male-dominant society/workplace, females in positions of power for some reason seem to feel the need to prove their dominance by acting tough. The ones who just act like themselves fare much better than those who go out of their way to show they are in command. Maybe women just shouldn't be in charge; they don't seem made for it. Rephrasing the same question in multiple forums in hopes of receiving a more palatable answer is another sign of that.

Because women usually assert themselves in an aggressive way. People use the term b!tch for someone they don't like and assertive usually isn't a problem if people like you. Aggressive is.

I think that the name given to woman, period. I mean, think about it, an assertive or cocky man can be called a di**head. So it's along the same lines. Just a genderfied (nice word, huh?) word, I guess. We are though and I love it. Let the men try to keep up.

1. because men are loosing control that they are used to taking advantage of.
2. society..(women especially) aren't used to seeing a woman in an authoritative role and being accepted for it.
3. " ladies " don't behave that way.
4. we as a civilized people have to readjust our standards.
5. assertive or 'catty'? there's a difference!

It has been my experience that most people who think they are being assertive are actually just being pushy and rude.

Valid point. And we're accused of being lesbians if we don't dress up and put on make up all the time and love shopping!

It is sad, but it is also necessary if she is going to get what she wants. I find aggressiveness in women great, and there should be more of it.
