I see 3-4 women in very similar situations to you every week! I work in an emergency department and this is quite a common scenario.
At 5 wks sometimes an ultrasound is not going to be able to show what is happening (too early) and the blood test is better - it can tell you what is happening over 2 days - faster than waiting for an ultrasound in 1 -2 wks time.
It _IS_ just a waiting game now, unfortunately. I'm sorry that you're feeling scared about it and I can understand why.
But really from a medical/health point of view a miscarriage is not much different to a heavy period - particularly so early on in the pregnancy. You'll be a little uncomfortable but quite safe unless you are bleeding very heavily or in severe pain.
However, the loss of the pregnancy is a completely separate issue. Was this a planned/wanted pregnancy?
You will need to see your doctor, but it sounds to me that your doctor has it well in hand. They should check your hormone level and they should also check your blood type - you might need an injection of "Anti-D" if your blood type is a "negative" blood type, ie. O negative, A negative, B negative, or AB negative.

I really feel for you. I had a miscarriage a couple years ago and I was heartbroken. It's scary when you don't know what's going on.
I see alot of people telling you to go to emergency, but I've done that (last time) and they pretty much told me that if you are going to miscarry this early, there's really nothing they can do. They can't stop it. They may try and ultrasound, but it's still early. I had a transvaginal with my firstborn, due to spotting, and he's here today. ;) They'll also draw blood, but like you said, they need samples two days apart to interpret.
If I were you, assuming you're not experiencing any pain in your shoulder (sign of possible ectopic pregnancy) or abdominal cramping or heavy bleeding, I'd wait and call my OBGYN or doctor first thing in the morning. If you are going to miscarry, they can't stop it anyways.
I know how hard this is. If it's any comfort, some spotting in early pregnancy is common, and not all cases end in miscarriage. I spotted twice with my firstborn. :)

Spotting is pretty common in early pregnancy. You should always consult a doctor but light bleeding is usually not a bad sign. However, if you have medium to heavy bleeding then that can be bad. If you have a miscarriage you would know. You would have cramping and bleeding (not just spotting). You should consult a doctor anyway because there could be many reasons for bleeding.

i miscarried with my first too but with this pregnancy i am now 23 weeks i have not had ANY bleeding at all.
I would go to the hospital because any bleeding is a cause for concern until proven otherwise by your doctor. Cramps or no cramps you need to see a doctor. Everything may be fine but you want to know for sure!! Best of luck finger's crossed for you and your baby!!

,Yes it has, on 6 occasions. I hope you are not and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. With a history of miscarriage then the risks increase. It sounds like it my love, but only the blood test will tell you for sure. get plenty of rest and please keep me updated. My heart goes out to you. Fingers and toes crossed.xx
This lady has already been to the DR and has to wait for a further blood test, to test her hormone level, which she has explained above, she is on here typing and not at the doctors as there is nothing they can do until she gets that result from the blood test.I would think she is upset and scared and just wants some one to be there for her to listen to and get help and advice from. Try reading the question properly before answering.Gheeze so sympathetic.!!!!!

I had light pink spotting all day one day and that night I went to a Christina Aguilera concert even! I had lots of worries and I had brown spotting also for days but my baby was fine and I am twenty weeks pregnant. Infact he's kicking me right now. Bleeding is never normal but it's not always bad. Try to relax it's very important and drink water so you're not dehydrated. In the meantime I'm sure you're fine.

I had 2 weeks of just spotting, and then I MC with cramps at the very end. I would go to to the Dr. ASAP just to be sure. It took me about 2 weeks to MC completely. I hope everything is ok, and it probably will be, but just to be on the safe side.

nope. byt maybe it is the time for your period? i heard it is all right to bleed a little bit when your period is due during first 3 months of pregnancy. also u should be very careful during that time, especially if u had previous miscarriages

It could be but with out the cramps it also can be a bladder infection. Go in anyways and ask.
