I must disagree with you. I went to Miami for a fortnight in '92 and everyone I met there, without exception was polite, well mannered and respectful.
There are a lot of rude people in the UK too but I think manners and etiquette are part of our cultural heritage.
As for the war, you'll just rub people up the wrong way by trying to claim that America won the war for us. We were going at it for two years before the USA started helping out; I'm not saying that we didn't appreciate the cavalry coming at the eleventh hour but Britain was already tired and war-weary by then .... sorry, old bean.

Well...I'm Australian...so I'm not really British or American but...
British people have the reputation of being polite but this was the way it was, not the way it is.
In olden days, children were taught with impeccable manners and precise movements. They were taught seriously not to be rude to elders and of course the only way to climb the social ladder was to be very friendly (or have lots of money).
Americans got their reputation, I think, from the media (T.V show, Radio, Newspapers etc.). Stereotypically, Americans are rude and arrogant. But this simply isn't true.
I'm not saying there aren't polite British people or that there is no such thing as a rude or arrogant American, but in general, they are pretty even.
People shouldn't staple country's population as something specific. Everyone is different, no matter where they live.
xoxo

I am British and I have no problem with any Americans. In fact I consider the United States to be a great asset to western democracies as a whole. The dollar and human cost defending our values and spreading democracy where tyranny reigned, is unmatched by all European democracies together. The reason the USA is unpopular in our country at the moment is simply due to the leftist media's skewed reporting of events. Mostly it is our lesser educated people ,that feel a need to belong to a trend as opposed to evaluating the situation ,that are most vocal. Many of my compatriots that are quick to condemn the actions and values of the United States, should be careful what they wish for.I would rather be Airstrip 1 than Tehran 2.

I think you should visit the UK, you would soon change your mind. You can't say Americans are this and British are that, and talk about everybody as a whole.
Britain has polite well mannered people, so does the US, but as you will find anywhere there are LOTS of Rude, Ignorant, Impolite, selfish people
Were not like you see on the telly, polite with stupid accents, we swear and be rude too !!

Most of the Americans I've come in contact with are no more rude or arrogant as the Brits or Aussies that I've come in contact with. I think that people get the impression that just because our country's politicians are idiots that the rest of the Americans are idiots. That's not the case.

do you have any idea how many people live in American? How can you say that all those people are rude and arrogant. Every single one...that mean me, Alicia keys, a 5 year old little girl, you, EVERYONE and besides not all British have "such polite manners" actually many are really rude and dislike Americans. But notice I say MANY not all, as in the many I've talked to no as in the whole freakin' country!

You expect me to believe you are American? You are the first one I've ever met who likes a country better than their own. I'm pretty sure that you must be a British person doing a wind up as I could never picture an American saying this and I've met a lot of them.
