admissions for alumni's kid?

does anyone know how much, if any, it helps to be the child of an alumni when applying to a university

It usually won't help you at all at a public university, but may give some advantage at a private one. It usually, however, will not help a child who is unqualified for the school, but will just another competitive factor in the final decision.
