I wrote a few opinionated articles and I'd like to try and get at least one of them published. I'm not considering a career as a writer I just want to give it a shot.
I have them copyrighted and everything but I don't know where to send them. Does anyone know where the names and addresses of some magazines where I can submit my articles? The only ones I can think of are Time and Newsweek and I severely doubt such a large publication is going to take work from an amateur.

There are two routes I can see you going on this:

1. If your articles are about something specific, you can send them to a more topical magazine. Your local bookstore will have guides in the writing section with lists of magazines that you can pitch to.

2. If your articles are general and fairly short, try sending them to your local newspaper instead. I had some luck doing this, and my local paper is a pretty major daily.

I should also mention that Newsweek's My Turn page is especially designed for amateur writers/contributors to submit their work.

Best of luck!
