Travelling in Egypt is slightly more expensive than travelling in India. Most backpacker's live on 15 USD per day in India and spent 20-25 USD per day in Egypt. Most expensive in Egypt are the steep entry fees to sights, which are often 10 USD or more. Cheap, but nice hotels cost around 7-10 USD per night, food in a cheap restaurant is around 2 USD per meal. (On the bottom end I have stayed in hotels that were 2 USD per night and eaten fool sandwiches for dinner that were 0.05 USD each.)

Flights: try looking at http://www.skyscanner.net . It might be worth it to fly into Jordan and then take the bus to Egypt. Fare from Amman to Cairo by bus is roughly 40 USD one-way.
