I can't understand this mentality. There is no room for BIG BROTHER attitudes on YH. ther are other site where people can try to play BOSS! People are actually allowed to love and care for animals, to love and care for people, and the sick and lonely and the disabled, and the elderly. This, as I have said before, IS not a classrroom, and we certainly don't need HEADMISTRESSES. Please people, I ask those of you who agree to say so. AND IT IS NOT Nazi Germany in 1939 either, OR Russia in the days of the cold war. We have had ENOUGH Hitler's, Napleons and Stalins in the world, and we don't want any more. And not on this site.

I looked at this lady's question about her cat. She is upset, and asking for help. We should do that. I understand what you are trying to say. You have obviously looked at the question and the answer. It is amazing what animals can survive. Haven't cats got nine lives?

I additionally responded the question...went back later and grow to be greatly surprised to make certain flat-out negativity. The outlook did not seem stable, yet I nevertheless tried to furnish demon effectual and useful suggestion. That and help grow to be what she grow to be searching for. It wasn't for any individuals to return to a variety that the cat mandatory to be positioned down...basically that it mandatory to be taken as quickly as conceivable to a vet. he's the only qualified to assert if there is or is not any desire. If she comes on at present and tells us that there wasn't something that could desire to be finished, then she did her superb. If she tells us that the cat may be saved, then i'm going to be overjoyed.

That negative response must have come after I posted to her plea for help....will go have a look - but needless to say I agree with YOU! - IF the cat can be saved and a method for doing so can be found if the person has not the resources to pay for it.

There is TOO little caring for living things in this world today!

I did have to 'put down' my precious Himalayan 4 years ago who had a terminal condition that required IV's 3x days to prolong his life no more than 6 mos. I could not afford those IV's plus I was not home due to working and it would not have saved his life. The Vet and I agreed this was best for him to give him peace.
It was painful beyond belief, but I had no choice.

When the animal CAN be saved, I vote for all efforts possible.

I just advised somebody to put their cat to sleep (something I do fairly often)...

Pets cost money, and I don't have anything against people spending their money on things that make them happy. When a pet gets sick or injured, they can cost a LOT of money. This is where I start to have a problem.

People who spend large amounts of money to prolong their pet's life could spend that same amount to prolong a human life. Feed 50 starving children, or keep a cat alive for another couple of years? In my humble opinion, this is a no brainer.

I would bet anybody the cost of their donation that the satisfaction they feel by helping another human being (or several) is greater than the satisfaction that they feel by extending the life of an animal by another couple of years.

I also believe in saving any animals life. The problems lies with the availability of funds for a feral cat. There are no free clinics in the States. What would you do if it is a question of having electricity and food to feed your family or having a wild cat. That is a real dilemma. The asker of the question was in a lot of emotional pain just asking the question as to what she should do and just was seeking others opinions.
It is a tough, tough call to make. I just wanted to hug them both and comfort them

You look at the animals future quality of life, and unfortunately you have to look at financial situations. For a human being I'll go out in the street bankrupt, for a pet I'll do what/when I think best and if necessary give it a decent burial. (As I did with may 14 yr old dawg a couple years ago -- she had kidney and liver problems that would have priced me out of family groceries -- the vet compassionately put her down for me)

I had a cat that I dearly loved he got sick I took him to a vet and left him on my way to work--told them to call me. Well, I went back when I got off work and had a dead cat in a box. they had put him to sleep and said his lungs were full of fluid and he had a growth. Fee $100.00 dollars and my cat was dead. 3 years ago my son stepped on a stray kitty his girlfriend had brought home, she threw such a fit I threatened to slap her if she didn't shut up and she was squeezing the kitten. We ended up going to an emergency vet clinic---$289.00 later the kitty was pronounced fine. Saving a 'wild' cat that is not a pet would be way beyond the scope of cash it would cost. My daughter just spent over a thousand dollars on her lab, he was only 3 and full of cancer and had to be put down, then it was another $175.00 to have him cremeated. Times are rough and cash is a factor. There are no free vet clinics in the US that I have ever heard of.

I will admit that I am not a cat lover. I also would not injure an animal, cat or not. I do wish that more people would be responsible for their pets and have them spayed or neutered. Too many are sent to shelters with not much hope for a loving home.

But what about when the cat is in extreme pain? Or is dying after being hit by a car. I know a vet who has had to put down quite a few of here animails that she loved very much and had them for 15+ years.

With a pet it is best to take the advise of your Vet. You may not like it but most Vets are very experienced and compassionate and know better then anyone what the proper coarse to take.
