I can't understand this mentality. There is no room for BIG BROTHER attitudes on YH. ther are other site where people can try to play BOSS! People are actually allowed to love and care for animals, to love and care for people, and the sick and lonely and the disabled, and the elderly. This, as I have said before, IS not a classrroom, and we certainly don't need HEADMISTRESSES. Please people, I ask those of you who agree to say so.

you go girl !!
if i had wanted all of this cr*p, i would have stayed in grade school - that's the mentality of some people here - grade school !! it is getting downright ridiculous that somebody can't ask a serious question and not get blasted for it.
i bet this person would think me a real nutcase - i rescue animals on an almost daily basis. just today we bought 6 pygmy goats just so that the person who had them wouldn't sell them to somebody else that was going to butcher them.
i have rescued more dogs, cats, goats, horses, chickens, and anything else you can think of - and i wouldn't have done it any different for all the tea in China !!! i read the question, and i felt enough of her pain through the WWW that i couldn't even answer her for my tears - i could actually feel her pain and wish i was where she is, because I would help her. ranting and raving at her won't help to ease the pain - she needs kind and loving words to help her with this horrible decision that she is faced with. believe me, i have been there many times - even though i will ALWAYS try, sometimes i have to admit that they just can't be "fixed" and end their suffering. telling someone who loves cats to trap and euthanize them is just WRONG !!!

Came back to edit my answer, but it wasn't there...oh well.
I did go back and re-read the original post from alcholicdemon on this subject and although I saw postings from some who suggested killing the cat by means other than taking it to a vet/humane society, I saw practically nothing but folk who cared about animals, justme.
IF the kitty could be saved, then YES, as I posted myself on that question, it should be done within that person's capability and the resources available to her.
The life of any living animal is precious!
However, there are circumstances that disallow this sometimes...such as my precious Himmy, 'Romeo' who 4 years ago contracted a fatal end stage renal disease. He was certain to die and could only be prolonged for 4-6 mos which would only have satisfied me...selfishlessly..not made him any better. The treatment was 3 IV's a day...costing far more than I had and still ending in death. The vet and I agreed it was most humane to let him die peacefully with an injection. I stayed with him during the procedure and YES it was the most painful thing for me, yet I know it was right and just.
IF this feral cat could be saved, then YES, as I posted on that question, she deserved the effort and maybe the possibility of being adopted in the future.
As one person posted....taking care of feral cats is not a good idea...it is much better to find a saving league who will rescue them, treat them with behavior modification and love and put them up for adoption later.
I hear your pain - but please try to be less judgemental - I know you to be a loving person and I understand your concern, believe me.

I also answered the question...went back later and was surprised to see flat-out negativity. The outlook didn't look good, but I still tried to give demon helpful and positive advice. That and support was what she was looking for. It wasn't for any of us to decide that the cat needed to be put down...just that it needed to be taken as soon as possible to a vet. He's the one qualified to say if there is or isn't any hope.If she comes on today and tells us that there wasn't anything that could be done, then she did her best. If she tells us that the cat can be saved, then I'll be delighted.

I believe some of the answers were to put it out of its misery if it is in pain and cant care for itself. It did not sound like there was any way it was ever going to have a normal life and would not make it out in the wild.

Did something happen somewhere that we are unaware of? You are not being coherent.
Just for the record. I love cats. Have rescued many, am in the process of trying to rescue a feral cat right now, but sometimes it is just not possible to save them.

I don't know what happened to the cat, but I do know that if you can save an animals life it is better than putting it down. Only the Vet can help here, if you can afford a vet. If is is in terrible pain, it is better to take it to the RSPCA and see if they can help. And commenting on your comments. We live in a Democracy. Well in Australia anyway.

If fyou're talking about cats..I have only put a pet cat down when there was no chance for it to recover. I'm not sure what else you are talking about.
