The odds of any simple event occurring is expressed by a RATIO. The numerator is the number of ways the event in question can occur. The denominator is to total possible outcomes.

For example, the odds of rolling a 3 on a six sided die would be 1/6 th. There is only 1 way a 3 can occur, so the numerator is 1. But, there are six possible outcomes total, so the denominator is 6.

the ODDS of something happening are INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL to that event not happening.
