That's why I don't watch live TV. I record everything so I can skip the ads. One third to a quarter is just ads. A one hour show used to be about 50 minutes plus ads, now it's more like 40 minutes plus ads. What bothers me is not so much the ads, how good or how bad they are, and how long they are, but the fact that you're in the middle of watching something and then suddenly they pull you out so you can watch some commercials! I'm French and in France, you have all the ads before and after the program, not during. Why Americans people think it's normal to have your show interrupted every 10 minutes is something I cannot comprehend.

That depends on what your watching!!!!!! Do you learn more watching the simpons and Family Guy or do you learn more watching Family Feud and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Do you learn more watching Soap Operas or do you learn more watching Court Shows? I personally love to watch t.v. the simpsons, reality television, soap operas all of it but i do well in school, watch the news, read the newspaper, and ask questions and it keeps that thin line between smart and ignorance balanced.

I don't think it makes you stupid, but I think it does stop your brain from being active. It like you're on autopilot. You don't grow as much. But depending on what you watch you can learn a lot, but the trade off is being in a zombie like coma for however long you're watching.

Actually, it depends on what you watch. I like HGTV and learned quite a bit of things that can be done to a house and grounds.

If you watch it for hours and hours a day. Yes it can make you stupid. But I think you would have to be pretty weak-minded for that to happen.
