NO ONE is running this year (2007) our next presidential election is not until November 2008, and the winner takes office Jan 20, 2009. There are MANY candidates now, so we have primaries Jan to June 2008 to select candidates who are officially nominated at the conventions in July and Aug 2008. Each then picks a running mate for Vice President, and after 3-4 months of campaigning, we finally VOTE.
