I respect a lot of people like Ali and Joe Louis, but Jackie Robinson or Jim Thorpe gets my vote. Babe Ruth was also great.

If you go by public opinion it would be Ali or Michael Jordan. I personally think Jim Thorpe is the greatest athlete of the last 500 years. Jesse Owens would be another top choice as would Pele as I see both also mentioned.

My all time favorite was Walter Payton. I am not a big sports fan, but I got such a thrill watching that man run with the ball! He really loved his sport.

How strange, they're all American! Do you not believe other countries produce good sportsmen & women? We have many great sportsmen who were born in Australia. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.
