Government gains nothing; the people do -if, the business uses the break as designed by hiring more employees and/or paying higher wages and/or buying new equipment etc. Anything that revolves the money back to the community - which, more often then not, is what happens. As for your other Qs... I have no opinion with out further research. Sad, really but it's something I haven't paid enough attention to.

Politicians always give tax breaks to draw business to their area. State and local government do this to create jobs for those in their State or district. It does not matter if Democrat or Republican... most will try to use the tax incentives to bring business to their area. Some may not and those, when we look at them, could be as the ACLU, in that they believe in moving more and more towards Communism. You may notice that many large manufacturers moved many operations overseas! It is a sign of our times and the fact that some voters keep electing the Liberals with their agendas. So we have less and less jobs.. Public timbers? You mean government controlling private property? actually, trees need to be controlled. They need to be thinned out in some areas and plantings are needed in others. In some states you can get a permit to cut and the government specifies what one can take. The ruling for logging companies is to plant 3 trees if they cut one down. a good idea! We need trees to stabilize the environment. Nature is causing the greenhouse effect and not man.. that has been known for some time,, but not mentioned by some politicians and other liars.God bless. Earl.

I'm always amazed about how little people know about the system of taxes. Businesses don't pay taxes. They incur a tax expense. That expense has to be offset by the price of their product or service so they can realize a profit. This allows them to invest more of that profit into growing their business, along with hiring more people in the firm.
I live in the American West. The place where over 55% of the land west of Denver is owned or controlled by the Federal government. Who made the decision to declare these to be public lands? Elected politicians from the states east of Denver who have no knowledge of the resources of the West. And I don't see them running about to create large swaths of public lands in their states.
As for "national forests" they aren't museum pieces. Trees are an agricultural commodity, just like corn or any other crop. You cut a tree down and replace it with a seedling that grows another tree. And, if you don't do that real danger exists. The recent outbreak of wildfires in California are due, in part, to dead trees from the bark beetle invasion that weren't harvested to clear the land. So, a lot of fuel built up to feed those fires. Right now over 30% of the trees in the Lake Tahoe Basin are dead from the beetle. But, you can't touch one of them because of restrictions imposed by those who know nothing of forestry.

They promote big business because the jobs that are created and the markets that evolve make for more products and more taxpayers.
The employment rate goes down and the end result is much better than if they had taxed big business in the first place.
