Did anyone else just hear Gammon totally rip A-Rod on ESPN? Basically, he called him out for drawing attention to himself during the World Series with his opt-out announcement. He went on to say, "Buyer beware, maybe there's a reason he has never been in the World Series." Would anyone care to join my new religion that worships the Lord Peter Gammons?

I did and I applauded him for it. Peter Gammons has always been one of the most knowledgble guys about baseball around...and im glad he did rip A-Rod, I feel the same way he does...it should have been the Boxox nite but they deluded it by all the hoopla about ARod opting out. Scott Boras and ARod should be ashamed of themselves, because one or two morer days would have made no difference on announcing....the number of teams that will be in the bidding is small and they know if they are particiapting in the bidding or not. Gammons has always been on the money about stuff..he is and should be highly respected

He should rip Scott Boras, but he won't. Boras is one of Gammons' sources, and Boras knew EXACTLY what he was doing -- getting maximum media coverage for his client by releasing this rather big information at an event the entire baseball world would be watching.

Which is Boras doing what he does. Seligula used to have an informal but respected moratorium on any non-World Series related baseball announcements during the Series, but he either no longer cares to uphold it, or he really is toothless. What is done, is done.

You know Fox isn't going to sit on that sort of info.

Great! Now every column Peter Gammons writes next year and every segment with him on Baseball Tonight will be about how great the Red Sox are. And ESPN will become even more Red Sox/Yankees/Mets centered than ever before. If you're a fan of any other team, you might as well not watch Baseball Tonight next year.

Gammons really said that? Uh-oh...he better hope Alex Rodriguez doesn't change his mind about this opting out thing, or else he may be in a lot of trouble with ESPN.

ESPN and it's parent companies don't take kindly to anything short of Yankee sychopant impulses.

Edit: Nah, Cubs, don't be so cynical, man...the Red Sox will eventually fade into obscure 12 second blurbs per week, and then, back to Yankee Stuff™ like Buster Olney's daily Yankee chronicles about the Yankees outta New York, New York's very own Yankees.

Sorry I already started that one.

I started my shrine to Lord Peter about 20 years ago when he was writing for SI and Baseball America.
