The girl was killed by a jealous lover.....she died in a peculiar way. I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's in America, and that it happened somewhere between the late 19th to early 20th century....

(The town might have been renamed more than once after.)

She was stabbed once down her back, and once across, in a cross-formation, and then stabbed repeatedly.

I'm afraid it's nearly impossible to answer your question with the information at hand. It would help a good deal if you could narrow it down to a state or even a geographic area such as the Southwest, New England, the Midwest, etc.

Did you read about this in a book or a magazine article? Are you even sure that such a crime was actually committed?

Perhaps your question would be better posted in the section dealing with law.

why would this murder make the town rename itself?

Did the town's name become synonymous with the women's murder?
