over this whole Iran situation, how would it be fought?

it's obvious that it would probably end up with the use of nuclear weapons, but i think that both sides would hold off from that until it was entirely necessary, because they know that it will result in mutually assured destruction.

i'm guessing they would make it a naval war at first, seeing how the invading country has a disadvantage, and neither country would want to take that role.
what do you think?

the last 40 some years, there have been flirtations with nuclear weapons and a full scale nuclear confrontation is unwinnable, both sides know this. 25-30 years ago, it might have been a possibility, but I think everyone has figured out it's a ridiculous prospect that no one can win. They do of course keep the weapons around because if they didn't, they'd be risking only one side having them, and then the war would definitely be a winnable one. They are more of a deterrent to themselves, than a viable weapon.

It will never happen. No US President can be so dumb and naive, not even George W Bush!

In the unlikely event of it happening, it ewill quickly become a World War and all the Nations will have to take one or the other side.

The pile up of Nuclear weapons at present is enough to destroy this world completely 30-50 times, hence it will take only a few minutes for the World as we know of it today, will cease to exist.

Pray to God that such a holocaust doesn't happen.

Why do you say that it would soon go nuclear,no one is that stupid.Nuclear war would be the end of civilisation. This world would become an unbelievable hell,a world where the lucky ones are the dead. There is a lot of talk on here about the possability of nuclear war,it scares the hell out of me.There are no winners in a nuclear war,so what would the point be.

jb you have a hell of a lot to learn

Any protection stress powers with nuclear weapons that bypass to conflict will effect in a nuclear conflict. the U. S. can rather defeat China and Russia. yet i doubt they might enable us to defeat them without launching some nukes. No 5 militaries mixed can experience u . s . of america's protection stress. u . s . of america won't be able to be defeated applying in many situations used conflict. Nukes could be the only selection for China or Russia. yet great-powers havent long gone to conflict with eachother on the grounds that WW2. the only way great-powers attack one yet another is thru Proxy international locations. Russia subsidized Vietnam against u . s . of america, u . s . of america subsidized Afghanistan against Russia. They basically supply weapons to damaging international locations to combat eachother.

Forget about naval war. The nuclear exchange will last only a few minutes. Then the war will be over. Everything will be contaminated and poisoned. There will be nothing worth fighting for.

Russia and China have both been subdued and are eating purina dog chow out of our hands.

Russia and China are no longer superpowers -- they are mere mechants and vendors -- and not very good ones at that.

...Well- then it was nice knowing you...-because the "way" it would be fought- would VERY quickly become strictly academic- & your Question- moot. So let's hope we NEVER find out... :(
