Honey don't worry. It is totally normal to be irregular and skip months the first 1-2 years while your body is developing a cycle. Going over a year without a second period is not very common but it is not unusual and doesn't mean that there is something is wrong with you.
You do want to mention it to your doctor next time you see her but again it's not something that I would really worry about if you are otherwise healthy.
Best wishes and I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me if you like. :)
Edit For what it's worth I'm 15 now and started not that long ago. I forgot to say that it may be a good time to start seeing a gynaecologist. Personally I have a woman dr. because I just felt much more comfy talking to her and having exams.

hey, im 14 as well, and you really shouldnt worry about a once time period. especially if it was only your first. My grandmother from my dad's side didnt start until she was 16 and only got her period every 3 months until she was 17. My mom on the other hand once went 6 months without ever getting hers. And she had been having her period for about 3 1/2 years.
What I'm getting at is, irregular periods are normal. I went 4 months without having mine last year (best 4 months of my life!)
But seriously, dont worry about it. Im sure everythings fine. And consider yourself slighty lucky that you dont have to go through yours. Periods are the one thing i hate about being a gurl.

Hi,
This is normal. Menstrual "periods" begin in most girls between 9 and 16 years of age. During the menstrual period a blood-like fluid flows out of the vagina. This is a monthly discharge and requires a girl to wear some kind of sanitary pad or tampon to absorb this fluid and keep it from soiling the clothes. Pads have adhesive strips and are worn inside the panties.
In the beginning the periods are irregular and scanty or heavy. Later they become regular. Most periods last from 3 to 7 days. After the period, there may be a day or two of light bleeding, called spotting.

Best thing you can do with this, is see a doctor. It is rather odd to have a period once and then go without it. Usually it's pretty regular each month. I started getting mine when I was 12.
If you're on birth control, it can really mess with your menstration. If you're overly stressed, or incredibly physically active, it can also postpone the date it comes. But I recommend going to your doctor and talking with him/her.

Don't worry, that happened to me too. I had my 1st period at the age of 12 and didn't get my 2nd period until a year after. But you know every one is different, it would not be a bad idea to ask your doctor. But just don't stress too much about it.
