NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Porter Wagoner, the rhinestone-clad Grand Ole Opry star who helped launch the career of Dolly Parton by hiring her as his duet partner, died Sunday. He was 80.

Wagoner, who had survived an abdominal aneurysm in 2006, was hospitalized again this month and his publicist disclosed he had lung cancer. He died at 8:25 p.m. CDT in a Nashville hospice, a spokeswoman for the Grand Ole Opry said.

Can we all have a moment of silence for his family and be glad that Porter has gone to a greater reward and is no longer suffering. He will definately be missed.RIP Porter

I want to Thank You For the Announcement about Porter Wagner. Seldom does the MEDIA announce the Deaths Of Famous Country Stars anymore Like Him and Many Others. Since you folks have started this Forum on Y/A Of "Country Music and Stars," I have Learned so much News that I Must have Missed Out on thru the Years. It is certainly appreciated. I always loved Country music, and today, IT IS NO LONGER THE SAME. I Know Porter is with JESUS. I will pray for His Family.

Without question, one of the legends of country music, and he will be sorely missed.

BTW, a little trivia: When Jim Reeves started, the name of his band was the Wagon Masters. Porter, who started a little later than Reeves nationally, wanted to name his band that because of the connection to his name. Reeves gladly conceded the name to Porter, and thus began Porter Wagoner and His Wagon Masters and Jim Reeves and His Blue Boys.

You know, I'm originally from Knoxville, Tn. and grew up watching Porter (and Dolly) on Saturday afternoon television. He seemed like such a nice guy and I always felt he never got the true recognition he deserved for his contribution to country music. A legend leaves us. RIP

RIP Porter. Let's be glad he was able to put out Wagonmaster, although how sad is it that the real Country artists have to go to the labels of other music.

(Moment of silence completed)

My deepest condolences to his many friends and the family. There's never a good time for a passing, but at least the man is at rest now, and in a happier place. He's catching up with dear friends he hasn't seen in a while and will be putting on a dazzling show for them in Heaven.

My Aunt used to eat dinner with him sometimes, I know she's sad now, because I am.

R.I.P, You Will Be Missed.
