Everytime the subject is brought up at home or at school. I constantly get bashed for my thoughts on the subject at hand, for example I believe the people don't choose to be gay or straight, you're born that way, but people automatically assume it's a choice, and when I state an opposition to something they've said, they automatically assume i'm gay. What gives?

Welcome to the Land of Ignorance. You will find that there is an over-population problem there.....what you are facing is an indictment on the herd mentality.

People who are "bashing you" are judge mental and fearful.
You on the other hand have a lot going for you, because of your positive attitude about such subjects. You are not judging, you are understanding, and are accepting. Of course those that are the opposite to that, will feel you as a threat, because they are so fearful of this subject.
I'm with you. "people don't choose to be gay or straight they are born that way."
I am a straight, Caucasian grandmother and I say good for you girl! When they assume that you are gay, put a big smile on your face and say "Thanks for the compliment".

Peace and love

its becuz theyre prejudice and ignorant.. you'd have to be every single gay person in the world to know who's right or wrong.. who cares if its choice or if they're born that way, my opinion, just let them be. ohhh so they prefer people of the same sex, big deal! how is that hurting anyone.. you get me? lol but unfortunately not everyone thinks this way, its just like bashing people when we were in elementary becuz they look funny or act different, just they incorporate religion into it to try to justify their prejudice.. thats my views on it anyhow. but in my opinion yes you're right, i believe people are born that way.. but you think if a gay person could help being gay that they'd really want to? its just like being straight, or bi for that matter. you prefer who you prefer, its what makes you happiest, and theres nothing wrong with that.
just my thoughts.
