80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Cool an easy question. There is no meaning to life, and that's your answer, or is it?

For some people that have it all figured in high school their path by its nature defines its meaning. Go to college, get a job, get married have kids, raise them, retire and ultimately die. In a concentrated form their meaning of life is to keep the hamster wheel moving and provide future workers to replace themselves.

For people like myself there's a bit more greyness coloring our lives meaning. I've been lucky enough to be in the places that life needed me to be in at the right time. I've helped people, met people, spent 3 months in Yellowstone watching the bison, antelope and Grey wolves (not to mention grizzly bears) play.

You could say that the meaning of my life was to learn how to have faith, faith that my decisions will get me to where the Universe needs me on time. I guess what I'm trying to say is that "Life" has as many meanings as it does people.

The key to it all is to first come to terms with your mortality. In a hundred years no one will be alive that will care that you dropped the ball asking someone out, so just go for it. Do what you believe is right as long as it doesn't involve harming another person. Take realistic chances. When someone tells you not to try something ask yourself if the end will justify any potential harm to yourself and if it does then go for it

Can we speak of a rainbow without colors? So too, we cannot speak of life without meaning. For meaning is intrinsic to life, and every part of life is meaningful.

Nothing about life is ever wasted. Everything you do counts. Every word you speak has its affect. Every thought that passes through your mind, lives forever. Your soul is the sum total of everything you do, every word you speak, and every thought that enters your mind.

So be careful how you nurture your soul. Seek truth throughout your life. Practice being loving always. And relish everything in this world that has beauty. That is all you need to know in life. That is all there is to know in life.

Never ending challenges and struggles. It starts from the moment when a heartbeat pulsates inside us till the last heartbeat when we die. The challenges and struggles are never ending even when faced with the simplest task; struggling to make the right choices so as to make the most out of situations, and challenging ourselves to pull through whatever tasks, events or situations we face; to resist to temptations and greed; incessant crossing of one hurdle after another, learning to survive and to stay alive. The challenges and struggles never end even when we laugh or cry, when we are sad or mad because we have to struggle and challenge our inner self to stay sane, sober and strong for the next hurdle.

God and love are just guises to comfort ourselves to move on and be strong. Life is ever so tiring and becomes so hard to bear when you see the real picture behind it.

i believe that our ultimate goal is to learn as much as possible, seems to fit with all religions. every situation in our lives contains a lessen to be learned. if you find yourself stuck in a rut, it's simply because you have not yet learned the lesson. best evidence i can come up with >>"if we don't know the meaning of life, shouldn't it be to learn what it is?"
