I am looking for legitimate reason why Rudy Guliani is more qualified to be President than any other candidate. Please do not bash Rudy Guliani or promote another candidate on this thread as I will be asking about some other candidates as well. Also, please note that there is only one Hillary Clinton and half of Americans are Republicans. Therefore, the arguments that a) "At least he's not Clinton." and b) at least he's not a Democrat." are not valid qualifications as those qualities are shared by my aunt, and I wouldn't trust her to run a lemonade stand.

Specifically, I am looking for
1) a voting record that shows consistency in what he supports.
2) evedence of good moral character
3) historical evidence that his ideas are good for the economy (ie. when Xyz lowered taxes, unemployment dropped by X%)
4) Evidence that he will stand by his convictions even if they are unpopular
5) In what way is he superior to the other candidates of his party?

Please think of this kind of as finishing the sentence, "I will be voting for Rudy because..."
Some of you may like to imagine this as a creative writing assignment.

5, part 1) His record as mayor showed him to be tough, and people think that will translate to him being good in foreign policy. He was also good with crime in particular. Although the other Republican candidates (except Ron Paul) are also tough on foreign policy and crime, so that's not really a very good reason to vote for Giuliani over them.

3) I think he has a record as a fiscal conservative. It's hard to see the effects of his tax policy in New York, because it's hard to separate out the effects of federal tax policy over the same time period. But a general analysis at the federal level shows that low taxes rates have historically resulted in low unemployment and increased tax revenue. Kennedy, Reagan, and George W. Bush are examples. FDR (pre WW2) and Carter are examples of liberal fiscal policy having bad consequences. I don't think the liberals actually dispute that lowering tax rates lowers unemployment. They just contend (incorrectly) that it lowers tax revenue and increases the deficit. The deficit does sometimes increase after tax cuts, but that's only because spending increases. If tax revenue increases, then the deficit increase isn't a result of a tax rate cut.

1 and 4) I think his record is consistent, and he's stood by his positions when they were unpopular. His liberal social views are unpopular now in the Republican primary, and he's standing by them.

5, part 2) The big objection that Republicans have to Rudy are his social issues. He's pro choice on abortion and favors gay rights. He claims that he'll nominate constructionist judges to the Supreme Court, so that might ease the concerns of some Republicans. But he's also said that if he appoints a constructionist judge to the Supreme Court, and that judge votes to uphold Roe v. Wade, he'd be ok with that. And that really worries me. A constructionist would never uphold Roe V. Wade, so if Rudy is ok with one of his appointees doing that, it makes me think that maybe he'll appoint judges who aren't constructionists.

2) I think that not even his supporters are suggesting that he has good moral character.

Because it will be one small step for Rudy; And one giant leap for all Americans with a history of cross-dressing?

Can't think of a single good reason he should be. I will NOT be voting for Rudy because he is; IMO, far too friendly with both international and domestic corporations that are NOT; IMO, friendly to U.S. strategic interests. He has pledged to continue the unsustainable war of choice in Iraq and is rattling sabers at other nations in the already volatile region which is so crucial to American economic stability visa vi gas prices. I could continue with other disagreements; But those facts along are more than reason enough for me to vote for anyone but Rudy...

Rudy lacks all the qualities that you listed, he is morally bankrupt and has no consistency whatsoever...

Rudy is a disgrace for both his party and humanity itself...

As a New Yorker I can vouch for the fact that he did more harm then good...

Rudy Giuliani has been embroiled in scandals, his 9/11 record is blotched.. just ask the firefighters that blame him for the defective radios, that he was warned about, which resulted in over 242 deaths...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17869046/

He later claimed that he spend just as much time as workers on ground zero, and didn't offer any kind of sympathy for the fact that they are suffering from illnesses, It was later found that he only spend 29 hours on ground zero, less then the time he spend at Yankee Stadium..

Then he was warned in 1993, after the first world trade center attacks to move the security office from the seventh floor out of the building in case of an emergency.. of course he didn't listen and look at the results..

He won't sign a pledge confirming lower taxes

And New York City’s crime rate being down attributes to police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Rudy had nothing to do with it.. “Bratton, not Giuliani, was featured on the cover of Time Magazine in 1996.[54] Giuliani forced Bratton out of his position after two years, in what was generally seen as a battle of two large egos in which Giuliani was unable to accept Bratton's celebrity”

His co-chair has been quoted as labeling "blacks retarded," not to mention that Giuliani's main sponsors have been caught in money fraud, drug/prostitution scandals, and child molestation

Don't forget when Rudy was mayor he was already accused of racial profiling, and not even reading the 9/11 commission report

Contrary to popular belief he does not support gay marriage, only civil unions!

Rudy will privatize social security.

He has been married three times, including once to his cousin, and his own children won't even speak to him, his daughter plans to vote for someone else..

His solution is to the failing public school system is not doing anything at all. He wants to leave the option open for parents to chose public or private schools, but most middle-class Americans, cannot afford to go to private school. Instead of letting the system fail, why not improve it, our tax dollars are already paying for it!

I'm not a Rudy fan, but I like him most out of all the Republicans because he's not really that conservative. His views are against the very fiber of bible-thumping fundies and that's a good thing.

Giuliani is the leading Presidential candidate of the Republican party because of his adherence to being anti-terrorist which is being carried by the party.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know if Giuliani will likely win.

It is in times of crisis that a person's true character shines through. Rudy proved himself in my eyes. Rudy is a leader for our times, he cannot be intimidated the way others can be.

No 1. reason he should be elected as President (my opinion) - when an entire state petitions to change the amount of terms a Mayor can serve then they are a GREAT Candidate for President - and I am voting for him should he win the Republican Primary
