I'm trying to find out how tall cows can get - I must not be typing in the right search words because... anyway - anyone know the answer? I just need to know the average height or tallest a cow can get - whatever the breed. Thanks.

another thing - when people post a question response to a question - do you come back and see if the person answered you? this is the clearest sentence I've ever written.

To give you some idea. I'm 5'4 and worked on a dairy farm milking cows, they were all Holsteins. Most of them would stand at their tallest point just below/at my shoulder. So maybe about 4 and a half feet tall? Some were a little taller, some a little shorter but in general their shoulders were roughly the same height as my shoulder. Their heads when raised fully up were pretty much right in my face.

A common cow is 4.5-5 feet at the shoulder although there are some breeds that get up closer to 6 feet. A guy about 6' tall will look down on the shoulder blades and if putting out a hand to pet on the back will have his hand just about level with his shoulder.

There are many breeds of cattle, some are shorter than others at the shoulders. You also did not mention male or female, nor the age. What you want to look for is something the cattle folks call frame scores.
