why would you risk your starters being up by 38 points in the 4th quarter?

Well first of all, I think it's hilarious that "That One Guy" spits out that laughable garbage but doesn't have the balls to allow emails from others to respond outside this forum! ! !...ok i'm done on that point.
Yes, the objective is winning, but last I checked the team who has more points than the other is deemed the winner, not the team who can outscore the other by the most. The Pats are breaking an unwritten rule in professional sports, (keyword: professional) what they're doing is the equivalent of laying down a bunt in the 9th inning of a no hitter, it's called professional courtesy, by doing that you don't improve your teams position in the standings all you do is expose the fact that you have no class, AGAIN!! first the video camera now the continuing classless act of running up the score. Yes this is the big leagues, that's exactly why it's not necessary to go for it on 4th down when you have a 38 point shutout going with just a little over 1 quarter left to play. We get it, you won, you're a good team, you are better than us so just put the smart bombs away and kill the clock. Now, if the score is 52 7 and you accomplished that by running the ball, after you had the game in hand, then thats just football and we all can understand that.
Pat fans, never fear the injury will come and, we professional fans, hope and pray that when it does, it's during a run-up and you're classless pats are at home for the playoffs.

My question is why complain when all of a sudden the Patriots are winning by large margins? I'm sure the Minnesota Vikings didn't win 20-10 by each game to set the total season record, and I know they blew out some people, but were people complaining then? If it was Manning, or Romo, or Rothlisburger winning by such margins would anyone at all be complaining?
This team(Patriots) is doing what they can to win games. This is the big leagues where you're paid mad money to play. Yeah okay so Brady was in when it was 38-0 hasn't Manning been in a game during the final moments of a 51-20(or whatever score it was game?) yet still who's whinning about that? How can you let a BACKUP RUNNING BACK score a touch down(in the DALLAS game) or a BACKUP QUARTERBACK score a touchdown(In WASHINGTON game)...if you don't want it to happen. STOP THEM,play DEFENSE..they don't get paid millions to sit there and watch other people score.
Why is it that one year Brady gets to show his real potential with GREAT talent after spending years dealing with AVERAGE talent people are getting mad? Look at how long Manning has had his recievers for, and how many Superbowls have they accounted for? ONE. How many different recievers has Brady used to win the Superbowl? Many. How many Superbowls has he won? THREE. Where are those receivers now? Do we even hear that much about them? If Brady had won last year with his recievers instead of Manning would this conversation even be happening?
People especially fans need to stop the "running up the score" business cause it's not like the Patriots have never been blown out before.

To answer your question, I have to first clarify this cloak of ambiguity you have placed: Tom Brady, The Patriots and Bill Bellichick are three different things!!!
In regards to the topic of running up the score, well, if it is such the case, then it is Bill Bellichick who is responsible, as he is the commanding officer -- I mean, if you're a private, you wouldn't disobey your captain's order right? Brady and company just happen to be able to make plays upon Bill's request.
Now, I can think of 3 reasons why Bill may be guilty of running up the score:
1- His team is blowing out some opponents, yet still playing as if it were a neck and neck game! I mean, throwing long balls and going on 4th down when they have an indisputable W in the bag clearly shows this. I have seen many people saying that if you don't want them to run up the score, then just stop them (the Patriots). This is true, but it completely neglects the concept of sportsmanship, and yes it does exist very much in the NFL, hence unsportsmanlike penalties.
2- Some other games have been lopsided in history, but it's the fact that the Patriots are doing blowouts on a fairly frequent basis that brings it to attention. It's just that they're that good that they can do this every week (although the game against the Cowboys was not really one-sided as many say).
3- The biggest reason people suspect Bill: well it's simple -- he's salty! He got caught trying to do some illegal filming of the NY Jets hand motions and then Bill got fined $500K! For many, it seems that the humiliation and fine combined cause resentment in Bill and it makes sense that he would make these coaching calls to spite the organization.
Seriously, the phrase "it's just a game" is only something you say when things start getting personal. To Bill Bellichick, football is definitely no longer a game.

Robert G, YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG..... If you want to liken it to baseball let's be a little more realistic.
If you are playing a game of baseball, and your team is winning 12-0, a giant blowout, but your pitcher is on track for a no hitter or a perfect game (extraordinary feats) should they stop pitching so well to be more sportsmanlike, should the help make the other team feel better by giving them a few funco pitches for easy base hits, so that the other team doesn't feel bad?? NO FREAKING WAY, and no one would ever suggest that, so why would you make a football team hold back just to let another team not feel so bad.
Laying down a bunt for a base hit, which you brought up isn't AT ALL like what the pats are doing. That is just down right spiteful, and trying to ruin a pitchers no hitter or perfect game, because you are mad you can't win. THE ACTUAL FOOTBALL equivalent to this would be taking a cheap shot at Brady just to injure him out of spite, now THAT is the least classy thing anyone can do or suggest, or even think of doing in football, spiteful injury, get out that is just dirty.
I think there is a point alot of people are missing. The regular season serves only one purpose, build up to the playoffs right? Practices are great, but the practice squad can only do so much. If I'm not mistaken every other team in the NFL is given a challenge once a week called a "game" in which they are pitted against another team in a full speed, full contact practice of sorts. These games serve a great purpose of keeping the team sharp and pointing out the flaws in their game, so they can improve for the postseason, and maybe a superbowl ring. It isn't the patriots fault that no one can offer them that challenge. If the redsox just worked to a 3rd quarter lead each game then sat back, they would then ACTUALLY BE THE COCKY TEAM THEY ARE MADE OUT TO BE, they would become over confident and complacent. By playing out the entire game at full strength, they are only trying to obtain the same testing of their own abilities as every other team gets each week. If all the other 31 teams get a full 60 minute full speed practice each week, why is it fair that the patriots only deserve 40-50 minutes? We have to keep our players sharp too you know. I'm sorry if no other team has been able to keep up, and so it seems like we are blowing them away. All we want is to stay sharp, and I bet if you asked anyone on the pats staff that is what this is all about, not those goddamn ******* tapes. Notice how they were mentioned the first 2 weeks in nterviews after, then were ******* dropped, its because the MEDIA AND OTHER TEAMS know just as well as the pats, that saga is over. Its time for you patriot hating fans, to realize it too. We aren't trying to prove a point, we are trying to stay sharp and avoid getting rusty.
If Indy is as good as so many people brag they are, we are gonna need some practice in FULL GAME EXPERIENCE, so stop yelling at us for doing what we gotta do to stay on top.

I honestly don't know. After all, Offensive players play to score points. People bring up what if Tom gets hurt .....a bunch of what if's.....that's how it is in life.....life is unpredictable. Too many people bring up scenarios that might not even happen. I just see a lot of Patriots bashing. A lot of holier than thou people pointing the finger at the team. A lot of teams have blown out people and weren't given crap about it like the Colts. This is NFL...this isn't pop warner. If they don't want the Patriots to score, then the defense should play better. Having starters in there is not necessarily bad...especially if they want to stay sharp. Also.....there is such thing as comebacks. Anything could happen in the NFL. Nobody expected a 6th round draft pick to replace Drew Bledsoe and lead the Patriots to win 3 Super Bowls.
enough said.

Obviously, you're a Pats fan and looking to start an argument.
It's 45-0, very late in the game and Pats go for it on 4th and 2. Why? And why again are the starters still playing when the game is effectively over?
This is called running up the score & it's classless. Many other teams have had countless opportunities over the years to do the same and instead they run the ball to run the clock down & eventually take a knee. 31 other coaches in the league just don't run up a score like this.
Bellicheck if following some twisted logic where he needs to exact revenge on a league that had the nerve to catch him cheating/ruining the integrity of the game. He's showing us now!

This is crazy. See, those who claim this is unsportsmanlike do not have the intelligence to compare this situation to other professional sports. So, if the Sox are up by 11 runs in the third they should stop swinging since knocking it out of the park is running up the score? If the Bruins are up by 6 goals they should stop shooting? Fallacy. These are professional sports, people, and if you want to question the legitimacy of the Patriot's legacy on a rule technicality (that could only add a minute edge) from one game then prepare to pay the price. This isn't Pop Warner or Little League...

This is such bullshit. And it pisses me off to end. They whined like this last week when we dismantled the Dolphins. Screw this, winning is winning. No one complained when the Chargers piled up the points(41-3) on the Broncos. That's not running up the score? Or what about Philly in week 3?(56-21) Why is running up the score only a crime when the Patriots do it? Why? I'll answer that! Because there is nothing anyone can find wrong with this team. They look perfect and there is nothing anyone can say against them. so what do they do? "They ran up the score on us!" Boo-f*cking-hoo!!!! Are you people serious? You're complaining that the pats played the game too well? How is that possible? Get over it, we decimated the skins.

This is what I call extreme B.S. People are so freaking dumb. There is the new Evil vs. Good thing that has come up. The Colts represent dignity, and charity...The Pats represent arrogance and unsportsmanlike conduct. Whatever...I want people to find one flaw in the pats. There are idiots that say, well they don't run very well. Are you crazy? Has that affected their game in any way. 8 weeks without the "need" to run. They're winning, why? THey don't have flaws.
So, people go into the moral issues. Belichick is heartless, and is very snarly when it comes to media. They are proving a point to the NFL and are getting angry when they were caught cheating...yea yea yea...SHUT UP.
When it comes to a point where the team is so good, that you talk about things like that, its shameful. This is the NFL. If you can't stop them, whine about it. Don't talk about morals.

There's a difference between having a high score because of running it up or having one just by playing the game. Most high scoring games are that way because one team scored most of the points before the fourth quarter. Once the game is out of reach, the winning team just runs out the clock, because there's no sense in risking your starters' health for a game that essentially over.
However, the Patriots aren't doing that. They are keeping their starters in well after the game has already been decided simply to score more points. Why? Scoring a lot of points in this fashion isn't going to prove anything. How many other teams in the past could have easily done what the Patriots have done if they would have chosen to be a**holes like them.
During Manning's record-setting TD year, he could have rendered his record damn near untouchable if he would have ran up the score on teams like Chicago, Houston, Detroit, and Tennessee. But he didn't because he and Dungy actually have some class.
Belichick and the Patriots are playing like they are mad that they got caught for cheating. They are mad because everyone now questions their previous championships. Why shouldn't we? Barry Bonds is SUSPECTED of using steroids, and all of his HR's are brought into question now. The Pats were CAUGHT cheating, so of course their championships are going to be questioned.
