Im sure that Target would like someone who is an expert at electronics to work in their electronics section. But what are the chances of that person applying?

As a second choice they would be happy to have someone who is average and can be nice to the customers. Keep in mind that most people coming to Target to buy something electronic who need to ask questions are probably not above average users. Often its their first time at shopping for that type of item.

Also remember that its not a bad thing to say "I dont actually know. But I think I know how we can find out. Lets go ask ". Thats better than bluffing an answer. Plus it puts you in good with other employees for acknowledging areas that they know more than you (and puts you in good with management for taking an extra step to help a customer)

Parker is pretty spot on with the answer to this question. I was hired at target as a Sales Floor team member about two months ago. My supervisors came up to me today and offered me the Electronics position in which they claimed was a promotion. Basically our current head for electronics is leaving to work with Apple and they needed to fill in that position. They came to me not because I have a huge round knowledge with electronics, but because I take my job seriously. I was told my perfect attendance, my attitude and willingness to help towards guests made me someone they can trust to work in that position. They told me they wouldn't take a new applicant to Target simply because they would not know to trust the person or not.

Therefore, taking your job seriously and driving sales with outstanding guest service is what makes a person fit for any position at the T.
