I live in Summerlin (west/southwest valley), about 15 minutes from the strip. It is right up against the BLM and Red Rock Canyon, a little over 1,000 feet elevation above the strip. The weather is superb 8 1/2 months a year. It gets a bit warm from June-August (but it's a DRY heat! ). You don't have to shovel heat and sunshine, though...

There is lots to do here, not just 24-hour entertainment at the strip, but beautiful golf courses where you can play year-round, and LOTS of fun things to do outdoors. If you love the mountains, there is Mount Charleston (almost 12,000 elevation) less than an hour away where you may go snow skiing on winter mornings and be back for a BBQ on the patio in the afternoon. Red Rock Canyon has some wonderful scenery and lots of hiking trails - it is less than 15 minutes from my house... Then for quick get-away weekends, there are a lot of places within close driving distance: Zion Nat'l Park, Brian Head Ski Resort (Utah); Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Sedona, (Arizona); Death Valley, California coast, Yosemite Nat'l Park, (California).

Some people (mostly LV natives that have lived here more than 20 years) complain about the traffic and crowds. There IS traffic congestion during rush hours and with road construction to keep up with population growth, but it is not nearly as bad as most other cities over two million population. Because LV is a 24-hour city, many workers drive to work at different hours making the traffic not so bad considering the population. The economy is still good, and housing prices are still reasonable (it is currently a buyers market).

Currently live in Henderson and love it. Moved here a few years ago from Houston and I can say I do not miss the humidity or mosquitos. There's always something to do (outside of the casinos/hotels). The City of Henderson has a great parks department and the traffic, in general, is not bad at all (minus The Strip and the roadwork west and northwest of downtown). If you have kids, do your due diligence...the schools in Clark County deserve the low ratings they get.

I live in Henderson. There are more things to do in Vegas than in some other cities where I lived. There are always concerts here, if you like to dance there are dance clubs, and if you like to gamble you will be in Heaven here.

The air is not clean. When I drive to work there is a noticable brown cloud hoovering in the air. The public transportation is horrendeous.

Overall, Vegas hasn't been bad to me, but I am ready to leave since I don't like the summers. They are too hot and too long. I'm an outsdoor person and I hate feeling trapped inside for months.

I'm in heaven. Love the temps, cleaner living and lack of common seasonal allergies to boot. There are too many pros to list here and some cons but, overall I love it!

Great sense of community.
Good schools. Clean and lots of stores for shopping.
Good job prospects and reasonable property taxes.
