I bought a cheap car to fix. It does not start, but it turnsover. I found that the camshaft was bent so I'll need a new one.
Does anyone know if that was the only problem in starting? I checked the starter relay and that fine.

Is it worth fixing or should I just get a whole new engine?

I've never heard of a bent camshaft. But if it is bent, I wouldn't mess with it. If something happened inside that engine powerful enough to bend a camshaft, I'd bet there are a bunch of other bad parts.

If the cam is bent, I'd also be concerned about valves, pushrods and other related parts. I'd pull the head(s) and give them a special check to ensure everything is copacetic. You might be better off with a used, rebuilt or crate engine. Good luck!

I'm no mechanic, but if the cam is your only problem, it's definetly worth fixing, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. A cam is only a few hundred dollars and so is the install. Maybe 500 total.

This is a in depth job. If you have not done any auto engine work before this is going to be a big first job. If you still want to try it get a good manual and follow it step by step. Good luck and remember to have fun.

is it getting fuel and spark?
Crank it and have someone spray starting fluid , if it starts means the problem is in the fuel delivery system. If it won't start, pull a plug wire hold it close to a good ground and crank the engine you should see a spark, if no spark check for spark coming from the coil.
